Disney Finally Returns to Its Animated Roots

Princess and the Frog May Be the Beginning

The Princess and the Frog was Disney's first animated feature film since Home on the Range which was released in 2004. According to www.boxofficemojo.com, the Princess and the Frog has made nearly 50 million dollars since its theatric release in November, but the numbers were not as impressive as The Lion King's. Many Disney movie fans consider the Lion King as one of Disney's best animated films ever. The movie's animation, soundtrack, and story were ahead of its time and raised the bar for many animated films to come. Disney's Beauty and the Beast come to mind as Disney's top five films from the last two decades. The movie was a masterpiece and became the first ever animated film to win "best picture" at the 1992 Academy Awards. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave it four stars and calling it as magical as Snow White and the Little Mermaid.

The Princess and the Frog received many positive reviews from various critics and according to www.imdb.com, it even garnered eight stars as of December 22nd from a total of at least 3000 votes from the site's users. For some that may come as a surprise since the last Disney animated film that received over eight stars on the Internet Movie Database was of course, The Lion King. I have yet to see the Princess and the Frog because I have not been interested in any Disney film since 1995, but I may watch it with my sister this month. I'm happy that Disney decided to make another animated film after Home on the Range was released in 2004. The movie stunk so bad, that it was hard to believe Disney actually produced it. I only hope Disney produces animated films that are as classy as Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.

When I first heard the news that Disney Studios was planning on releasing several feature films for the next three years, I was ecstatic. I remember that one of their future titles would involve little elves, but I forgot what the plot was about. I am not sure if Disney has ever released any movies that had any prominent elf characters. I am just happy that Home on the Range was not Disney's final 2D film.
