Disney Restaurant Bans Children

Mickey Mouse Doesn't like Children Anymore?

Amy Wood
Good heavens, I thought, when I first heard the news at www.ap.org. Mickey Mouse doesn't like children anymore? Is the world coming to an end?

Not quite.

I've been to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida last year and thoroughly enjoyed myself. My son had to time of his life. We visited The Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

We loved Splash Mountain, The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and of course the fireworks at night. All attractions at World Disney World Resort were just amazing.

So, what's up with Disney banning children from their restaurants?

It's not as dramatic when given a closer look.

Victoria & Albert's is the restaurant that has banned children under 10.

That ban affects my son. My first reaction at hearing the news that Disney is banning children from their restaurants was puzzlement and a slight anger that Walt Disney World Resort would ban children from any of their premises.

However, at no point during my stay at Walt Disney World Resort did I entertain the idea to enter swanky Victoria & Albert's in the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Truth be told, I didn't even know it existed.

The Victoria & Albert's in the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is an upscale, five-diamond rated, very posh restaurant. It has a dress code, soft music, and course-menus start at $125 per person. Does that sound like the average family-restaurant? No, it doesn't. At least not on my budget.

I opted for funnel cake, fries, and a coke during my visit at Walt Disney World Resort.

But, and that's a big but, if I had the wish to visit The Victoria & Albert's restaurant, planning to have a nice meal with my hubby, then I would definitely appreciate the absence of ill-mannered, wailing, bailing, snotty toddlers. Does that make me a bad person, a bad mom?

I don't know, but I think adults have the right, even at the Walt Disney World Resort, to enjoy some quality time without their off-spring or the ill-mannered kids of other people.

It's not even the first time that Walt Disney World Resort has banned children from establishments. Sometimes, children are banned who are not with adults from its Pleasure Island entertainment district. Also, Disney has an adults-only restaurant on its two cruise ships.

Furthermore, Walt Disney World Resort is quick to point out that it has 97 other full-service restaurants. Plenty options to cater for families with kids of all ages.

I for one feel no grudge at Walt Disney World Resort for banning children from certain parts of their establishments. Quite the opposite, I'm looking forward visiting Walt Disney World Resort again soon.

Great article - I agree with Disney that there should be an eatery for those who want placid dining, particularly with no kids!
