Disney Star Selena Gomez to Star in Ramona and Beezus

Disney star and teen songstress Selena Gomez will be starting in Ramona and Beezus, a 2010 theatrical release based on the Beverly Cleary award winning series of books featuring the Quimby sisters, Ramona and Beezus. Gomez, who is best known for her role as Alex Russo in Disney's Wizard of Waverly Place, will play the role of Beatrice "Beezus" Quimbly the over-achieving older sister of energetic, imaginative, and accident prone Ramona Cleary (played by actress Joey Kent).

While Gomez has started or played in a number of movies for Disney, Ramona and Beezus will be the teen's first non-Disney role, a fact which made the project a little bit scary for the fun loving actress. Still, based on her entry in her Myspace page during filming, Selena loved the whole experience calling it "the happiest I've been in a while." Gomez went on to praise her fellow cast saying that actress Bridget Moynahan (Dorthy Quimbly) was "the classiest woman ive ever met," John Corbett (Bob Quimbly), "the funniest guy" who "makes us ALL laugh ," and Joey Kent, "a little girl who is wise beyond her years."

The movie, a 20^th Century Fox production shot in Vancouver Canada, is currently in post production and set to release in August of 2010 and was directed by Elizabeth Allen. Allen's previous foray into the genre include the teen comedy Aquamarine.

Though the script will have plenty of Ramona and Beezus misadventures to draw from given the wealth of material in Cleary's series, one of the movie's story lines will feature the wedding of Beezus' aunt Bea. Family friendly, the movie is slated to receive a G- rating.

After wrapping up production on Ramona and Beezus, Gomez will be back for season 3 of the Disney channel series Wizards of Waverly Place. The new season of Wizards will have Selena's character Alex Russo falling in love for the first time. Aside from expending her acting career, Gomez's music career continues to soar with her music video "Naturally" currently among the top video's on itunes. As if that is not enough to keep the young star busy, Gomez is set to come out with a new eco friendly line of clothing (Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez), which she promises will be "pretty, feminine and bohemian." On the horizon for Gomez will be the New Line Cinema feature What Boys Want, a movie in which she is scheduled to play a teenager who can hear what boys are thinking.
