It's rumored that Disney is very interested about buying the rights to the Twilight series and is willing to pay $1 billion to make it happen.
The foundation of Disney's interest in making its own Twilight movie is based on scrapping the old twilight and starting completely over, this includes new cast and crew. The main problem Disney has come across is the fact that some people refuse to see any other Twilight movie made as anything less than an impostor and that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are the true Edward and Bella.
With such obstacles it doesn't help that the second installment of the Twilight series "New Moon" is already in the process of being shot leaving Disney with yet another Twilight movie that it will have to figure out how to erase from people's memories. Rumors say that Disney is willing to throw more money on the table to make sure the second movie with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart doesn't finish. Disney would have to pay for any production costs already incurred along with the projected profits the movie would have made. Disney is supposedly seeking complete rights which would mean they would own EVERYTHING with the twilight name on it giving them the power to stop distribution of all Twilight products and movie copies. This will go a long way in erasing Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart from the people's minds as Edward and Bella.
In addition to clearing the way for their Twilight to be accepted in the minds of the audience this would also be the only cinematic fix for hungry Twilight fans, so even if these movies do create hard feelings between Disney and its fans, the fans will have no choice but to embrace the product as the only available option. Some people believe that the filming of New Moon (the second installment of Twilight) is nothing more than a ploy to get Disney to act quickly because the longer this rumored deal takes the more production costs rise meaning the more Disney will have to pay. This thought holds water as to why the high priced star Dakota Fanning was brought into the cast of New Moon for such a small roll. Bigger name means bigger money which means the price goes up for Disney. If the filming of New Moon makes it to its completion the price tag for Disney will go through the roof so let's keep our eyes open for some fireworks.

Post a CommentIf I were Disney I'd buy the rights, stop all distribution, pull everything "Twilight" from the shelves and burn it (preferably publicly in front of hundreds of 13 year old girls). After that I'd make damn sure that NO ONE made another Twilight book, film, poster, shirt, etc EVER again. Including myself. I would also buy "Twilight" items from consumers that previously purchased them and burn them in front of said 13 year old girls.
