Disney World for Adults: The Monorail Resort Tour

Disney World can be a magical place, not just for children, but for adults of all ages. Once all the Disney World parks are toured, there are many adult entertainment options for those looking for a unique Disney experience. One of the most popular ways to add some entertainment to your adult Disney day is to try the Disney Monorail Resort Tour. This is not an official Disney tour, but rather one often mentioned as the infamous, "monorail crawl." Adults can tour the three monorail Disney World Resorts while stopping at one of the bars at each along their monorail tour.

How to Plan a Disney Monorail Resort Tour

The most important step for planning a Disney Resort Monorail Tour is to decide what sites are a must-see on your list. This self-guided tour can last as long as you wish, but generally plan on about 2-3 hours. If you decided to linger beachside at one of the Disney beach bars, it could be an all day adventure.

If you plan to do a quick resort tour along the way to check out the gift shops, decorations, and general resort scenery, plan to do this first at each Disney Resort stop. Once you pull up a stool at one of the Disney Resort bars, you may get comfortable with one of the specialty tropical slushy drinks.

First Stop: Disney's Contemporary Resort

The first stop on your self-guided Disney Monorail Resorts Tour is Disney's Contemporary Resort. This Disney resort was one of the first built at Disney World, back in the 1970's. The modern style was meant to be state-of-the-art in the vision of Disney Imagineers. The monorail runs straight through Disney's Contemporary Resort for easy access to the Disney monorail.

Once you exit the monorail, you can visit the Disney gift shops or take a peek at Chef Mickey's Restaurant on your way down to Disney's The Wave Restaurant and Lounge. The Wave offers a lounge area to stop for your first beverage, and is located on the first floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort, near the main lobby.

You can get a nice view of the Contemporary Marina and Bay Lake from The Sand Bar, the pool bar located outside of Disney's Contemporary Resort. Once you have completed your tour of Disney's Contemporary Resort, head back to the Disney Monorail for travel to Disney's Polynesian Resort.

Second Tour Stop: Disney's Polynesian Resort

The second stop on your Disney tour is the popular Disney's Polynesian Resort. This Disney Resort is heavily themed to provide the ambiance of the Polynesian Islands. Tropical plants, flowers, and waterfalls are signature decor at Disney's Polynesian Resort.

When you exit the Disney Monorail, you will be on the second floor. You can visit the second floor gift shop, O'Hanas Restaurant, Kona Cafe, and the Tambu Lounge. The Tambu Lounge is adjacent to O'Hana's Restaurant and offers bar and small table lounge seating for a drink.

The view outside of Disney's Polynesian Resort is a must-see. Take a stroll towards the Polynesian Vanea Volcano Pool area and pull up a seat at one of the umbrella tables or at the Barefoot Pool Bar. The white sand beach and Bay Lake provide a nice atmosphere to have a tropical drink at.

There are many photo opportunity spots at Disney's Polynesian Resort, as well as Kona Cafe for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and O'Hanas for dinner.The next stop on the tour is Disney's Grand Foridian Resort.

Last Stop on the Monorail Crawl: Disney's Grand Floridian Resort

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort is often considered Disney World's grandest resort. The all-white buildings provide a breathtaking photo opportunity. The Grand Floridian is deluxe in every way, and tourng this Disney Resort is a must-do for those who have never visited.

Mizner's Lounge is located inside Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and open from 5 pm until midnight each day. An outside bar sits on the shores of Bay Lake, near the main pool area for a more tropical setting for your last drink on the tour.

After you have taken the last photo, finished your last tropical drink, and are ready to return back to your hotel, just board the monorail on the second floor and head back to Disney's Magic Kingdom for bus transportation or to the resort you started the tour at.
