Disneyland Attractions: Before and After

John Hanes
Disneyland is one of the most popular theme parks in the world. Ever since its opening in 1955, Disneyland has been the vacation spot of choice for thousands of families, and everyone can fondly remember their journey through Disneyland's many rides and attractions.

But as people get older, they find that their memories of Disneyland differ greatly from those of their children and grandchildren. Disneyland is a constantly changing entity, with new rides and attractions that come out every year, and old rides that get shelved to make room for new attractions.

But some of those old rides do not simply get shelved and forgotten. Some are simply given a new face. Some are revamped for a world where more is possible with our technology. This article is for those who wish to know about the rides and attractions in Disneyland that have been revamped or dressed in a new skin.

The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse was a personal favorite attraction of mine, as was the movie it was based on. The movie caught the discovery of the possibility of a new life perfectly in my eyes. The attraction was everything I thought the treehouse would look like, and more. It had the water transportation system, it had the piano, it had the kitchen, and it had the wonderful steps and bridges all over. Recently, they revamped the treehouse, added new features to it, and renamed it Tarzan's Treehouse. They added the characters from the movie Tarzan, and different features from the movie.

Another favorite oldie ride was the Submarine ride, a fun attraction that took you under the water, through a large variety of undersea landscapes, with a large variety of sea creatures, ruins, and natural undersea wonders. The Submarine ride was taken out of Disneyland previously, but is being redone and re-skinned. It is being re-themed as a Finding Nemo attraction, and sounds like it should be a fun attraction to go to.

I have heard that there are two more attractions being revamped, although I have yet to see them. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride is being updated to include characters from the movies, including Jack Sparrow. And the Haunted Mansion is being upgraded, although I do not know if they are modeling after the Disney movie of the same name, or if they are simply adding better and upgraded scares to it.

They have also updated Davy Crockett's Island. They now call it the Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island. The Pirate's Lair is an add-on to Tom Sawyers Island. It is filled with all kinds of pirate themed activities, like a cave with treasure, and the "dark and mysterious caverns" called Dead Man's Grotto.

Disneyland has changed a lot since it's opening in 1955, with newer and better rides, and a lot of old favorites that are still standing. And new rides are coming every year. Some are good, some will be sure to become classics, and some won't last. But every ride will have its special place in someone's heart, and it will always bring good memories to someone's mind. Walt Disney may have died, but his legacy will remain through Disneyland for all time.
