Disneyland, California: Secrets to Getting Around Easier

Abby Greenhill
Isn't it fun to find out a secret? Well, there are secrets all over, including secrets about Disneyland! Do you think people know these secrets? Probably not, but if you feel that these secrets about Disneyland can help others, then feel free to pass along this knowledge!

FastPass

This is really cool and although many frequent visitors to Disneyland might know about it, the one-time visitor may not. A FastPass is quite simple and it is free. Choose a ride and look for the FastPass machine near that ride. Insert your Disneyland admission ticket into the machine. Take your admission ticket back out along with your FastPass. The pass will state a time that you need to return to that ride. If your pass says to return at 12:00 pm, you will do so and get in the special, shorter, FastPass line. That's exceptional! Remember, not all rides participate in FastPass. You can only get one at a time and it's only good until the end of the day.

FastPass Extra Secrets

If you don't get back to the ride within your allotted time-frame, don't give up and go away. Go to the ride and you will most likely get in without a problem. Be sure to check your FastPass, it will tell you when you can grab your next one. You might get a surprise when you get your FastPass. The surprise is called a Surprise FastPass. This pass will allow you to enter special rides or shows. If a show is lacking in attendance, they might offer a Surprise FastPass to get more people to attend. Be on the lookout for the Surprise FastPass.

The Best Times to Visit

If you go in May or September the crowds are a little lighter. Most schools don't get out until late May or June and by September kids are back in school. On the opposite side of that is the fact that the hours at the park aren't as long and some rides may be down for maintenance. Remember that in the summer it is hot, so try to visit when the weather isn't at full summer heat, unless you have no other choice. If your kids are off from school, assume most kids are. The least crowded days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The Busiest Rides

Some rides and attractions are busier than others. If you know which are normally busy, then you can set up a schedule to try to hit the busy ones early in the day before the crowds get there. The Peter Pan ride can have to an hour wait. Space Mountain 's wait can be 90 minutes or longer, that would be a good one to get in early in the day. Standing in the hot sun for 90 minutes for a ride isn't much fun.

Lines that Move Fast and the Best Times to Go

Some of the rides are so fast that although the lines look long, they move rather quickly. As they say, you can't judge a book by its cover. Fast moving lines include: The Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear, Jungle Cruise and the Tower of Terror. Visit the rides during the normal dinner time of 4:00 to 6:00 PM. That is when the majority of people eat, so the lines should be shorter. Go to Adventureland at night. Lines are always shorter during the parade. Catch the parade once, and then use that time to hit some short lines. Get to Disneyland before the park opens so you can be in the front of the line.

General Disneyland Secrets and Tips

Use the Disneyland Train as a means of transportation, since it circles the park. If you know what time the parade starts, and you don't want to watch it, be sure to leave the parade route area so you won't get caught up in the crowds and get stuck there. The afternoon heat can get to you fast, so that would be a good time to head back to your hotel for a few hours, cool off and relax. When you park your vehicle, take a photo of the sign/area where you parked so you will find it easy when you leave the park.

I'm sure I will never get to Disneyland, but it always sounds like a lot of fun. I used to watch Walt Disney's show on TV when I was a kid. I still remember Adventureland, Frontierland, Tomorrowland and Fantasyland.
