I'm still not sure who was more excited, Ricarda or yours truly.
The visit was my wife's early Christmas present. My stepdaughter is a single mother who has undergone a horrific three years, whilst her fiancé and the father of her child underwent extradition from their home in England and to date some 30 months incarcerated for a simple road rage incident on the Mediterranean island of Malta. (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5666848/escape_to_freedom_nearly.html?cat=16 )
I digress.
I have visited Disneyland and Disney World several times over the last 20 years that I have been resident here in the USA '" yet it is always a return to Walt's first creation (Disneyland CA) that I look forward to the most.
I haven't had the opportunity to visit their European creation just outside Paris, though my understanding is that given the choice there is little to compare with their American counterparts. If you disagree I would love to hear from you.
I must confess however It is the opportunity to share this amazing experience with a first time visitor that really makes this place special. I recall taking my daughter in the mid 70's and then my most recent bride 4 years ago. Still nothing compared to sharing Disneyland and by the way California Disney with my step granddaughter and her mother.
Ricarda, whom I mentioned is just 6 years of age and what a '˜magical' kingdom she discovered. We tricked her into entering the '˜Haunted House' by telling her it was '˜Halloween House' '" we were there in October- and she was dressed as a witch! Like so many she loved '˜It's a Small Small World'.
To my surprise she didn't enjoy '˜Pirates of the Caribbean'
My wife who had recently undergone a back operation spent the day in a Wheelchair and I must confess I was worried that it might have dampened our enjoyment on the day?
Quite the opposite!.
I must give Disney credit for their handicapped facilities. Should a member of your family be similarly disabled don't let this put you off a visit.
Aim your wheelchair toward the exits for each attraction you wish to visit. There the disembarking attendant will help your handicapped companion on to the ride or in to the attraction. All members of your party are also allowed to accompany the disabled guest.
This facility allowed us to see almost the entire park in a single day.
We were about to leave, exhausted I might add, at about 6.30pm when someone pointed out that the famous illuminated parade was just over half an hour away.
As tired as we all were, we made the decision to stay. It was well worth the wait.
Next year hopefully I'll have the opportunity to do it all again with my other step granddaughter Rashida, should they find their way across the pond from Malta!
Become a kid again '" Enjoy
