Disneyland: Within the Magic. Fantasyland

Jon Sugi
So you and your family are going to the happiest place on earth. You want to ride as many rides as possible right? Well most everything starts at the main hub. From there you can go to almost every land. But for any family, especially with young children the first stop is Fantasyland. This is a guide and review of rides in Fantasyland. Plus tips to avoid long lines, and making sure the little ones don't get scared.

One BIG disadvantage of Fantasyland is NO Fastpass attractions (except "It's a Small World"). Thats right, no skipping lines at all. So new strategy comes into play here. Get to the park as early as possible! This will allow you to hit most attractions with low or no wait times for the first 15-45 minutes. Here are the attractions in Fantasyland.

-Alice in Wonderland
-Casey Jr. Train
-Dumbo the Flying Elephant
-"its a small world" (Fastpass)
- King Arthur Carrousel
-Matterhorn Bobsleds
-Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
-Peter Pan's Flight
-Pinocchio's Daring Journey
-Storybookland Canal Boats
-Mad Tea party

Now comes the tricky part. Each ride has a different appeal to kids and adults. And they also have a different scary factor for different kids. In my experience one child is completely different in his/her take of a attraction. So I will give my opinion and hopefully that will help in deciding how "scary" these rides are. Also the decision of which attraction to ride depends on each family. So again, I will suggest and advise to the best of my ability.

Any family with a young child will want to ride Dumbo FIRST! I cannot stress how popular this ride is, even though it is the most simplistic ride in the park. This ride draws long, unshaded lines. Do it first. Don't think a second time about it. Next ride is a toss up. With Dumbo out of the way the next most popular ride is Peter Pan. This ride is almost always busy during the day, so I would suggest riding this next.

From there on most anything is fair game. Here is my suggestion and narration. By the time you are done with this thrid ride there will be a line at most every ride, or you have time to quickly get on one more ride with no wait. My next choice would be Alice. This ride has a slow load time, therefore increasing wait time when lines get long. Wieh lines are medium to long pick and choose whatever you want. Later I will address load times that will show which rides can handle more guests and which can't.

If your group is comprised of older children to teens here is my game plan. Matterhorn first. Most pre-teens and above don't care about Dumbo (even though I still ride it). But the Matterhorn is so tall it draws people's gaze from very far away. This ride is awesome but gets busy early in the day. Hit this one first if you want to ride it. If the choice is Dumbo vs. Matterhorn go to Dumbo.

Afterwards any ride is fair game. Usually in the morning if you are in thr front part of people entering you have 2-3 rides with no wait. So ride whatever you want, the same process is applied from the paragraph above.
Now for load times. I will group rides in slow, medium, and fast.

-Alice in Wonderland (slow-med)
-Casey Jr. Train (slow-med)
-Dumbo the Flying Elephant (slow)
-"its a small world" (fast)
- King Arthur Carrousel (slow-med)
-Matterhorn Bobsleds (med)
-Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (med-fast)
-Peter Pan's Flight (med-fast)
-Pinocchio's Daring Journey (med-fast)
-Storybookland Canal Boats (med)
-Mad tea Party (slow)
Regarding rides: The carrousel only has X amount of spots open for riders, so the speed of the Cast Member loading the riders affects the speed. The same thing applies with the Mad Tea party.
Scare Factors on a 1-10 scale for small children 8 and under
-Alice in Wonderland (maybe a 1)
-Casey Jr. Train (0)
-Dumbo the Flying Elephant (0)
-"its a small world" (0 but annoying to some)
- King Arthur Carrousel (0)
-Matterhorn Bobsleds (8)
-Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (3)
-Peter Pan's Flight (1)
-Pinocchio's Daring Journey (3)
-Storybookland Canal Boats (0)
-Mad tea Party (0 unless spinning real fast freaks you out)

In a nutshell Dumbo, and the Matterhorn are the big rides in this land. Everything else is popular but can wait. My best advice is arrive early and get those first few rides out of the way. And have fun while doing it.
