Disney's Cars Mega Bloks Review

These Were a Lot of Fun and a Great Stepping Stone to Regular Legos

Chey Conner

As a child I loved Legos. Frankly I still really enjoy Legos even as an adult. Of all the games and toys that I engage in with my nieces and son, Legos are one of my favorites. Up until recently my son did not frequently play with traditional Legos because of his age, but as he gets older he is beginning to. I have been looking forward to this, but have enjoyed the more age appropriate toys for Legos, Duplo and Mega Bloks. Over the years my son has received a variety of Mega Bloks and Duplo sets, some of which we were all vary fond of. One particular kind that he has is Disney's Cars Mega Bloks sets. While my son does not own every Mega Bloks set that is Disney's Cars themed, he does own four: Gas Corner with Mater, Luigi's Garage, Piston Cup with Lightning McQueen and Dinoco Stage with Dinoco Lightning and Dinoco Helicopter.

In general I have not purchased that many Mega Bloks. However, thanks to Christmas gifts my son has gotten quite a few and I feel that this particular theme is worth reviewing. Within the sets some of the Mega Bloks are small enough that they do pose a choking to children who might put them in their mouth. Also, if your child is a constant chewer of his or her toys you may find that the pieces cannot withstand the teeth of a toddler too well. I might be hesitant to recommend them to children under three, unless they would be played with under adult supervision. For older children the various little pieces make for some imaginative sets and are a lot of fun to play with. Of course the sets were limited in some aspects, each only being around a couple of dozen pieces on average, but together they are a great deal of fun and offer your child, or yourself, a lot of variations in constructing the world for the cars. Each set brought something unique to my son Mega Bloks collection.

Gas Corner with Mater consisted of 26 individual pieces, one hardly bigger than a few pennies. The set included the pieces necessary to construct a gas station a variety of ways, a traffic light that could hang or be placed on a pole, a gas pump, and Mater. Mater himself consisted of 6 pieces, his noes being the piece that was only about the size of a few pennies. The gas station building's features include a sign that reads The Oil Pan and triangle flags that could hang on the front of the building or connect the gas station to the pole and have the traffic light hang on them. I looked in a variety of places online to get an estimate of a price for the review. This particular set was anywhere from $25 - $35. It was actually more expensive than the other smaller ones.

Luigi's Garage also had 26 pieces, but the prices that I found for it ranged from $18 - $25. This Mega Bloks set consisted of what was necessary to construct a condensed version of Casa Della Tires, where Luigi and Guido worked in the movie. Unlike traditional buildings in the Disney's Cars Mega Bloks sets, the garage is closed up by two sides for its walls with one of the sides having a swinging door for the cars to drive through. Along with that there are two stacks of tires, a tire flower pot, a sale sign, lights, and a hanging sign for Casa Della Tires providing Quality Service. There was a Luigi as well, he consisted of only four pieces and was smaller than the Mater car from the previous set. This made it fun to play with the sets together because the two characters were similar in the difference of size they had in the movie. Cheaper than this one was the Piston Cup one.

The Mega Bloks Piston Cup set had only 20 pieces, but its price ranged in $13 - $20. The set comes with a Lighting McQueen, who uses 5 of the 20 pieces, a piston cup, and what is needed to make an archway with a checkered race flag and black and white triangle flags. Also there are a few blocks with the logos for the Piston Cup, Dinoco, and Rust-eze. This set is rather small, and does not construct a building or come with any platforms. However, I think that every Disney's Cars fan would want a Lightning McQueen, so it seems like a must have. I know the pieces in it are some of the most frequently used by my son. The last set comes with Lightning McQueen too, but he is in Dinoco colors.

The Dinoco Stage is actually a really great set. It comes with 44 pieces, and is priced between $45 - $70. The set contains a Dinoco helicopter as well as enough pieces to make a Dinoco or Rust-eze themed stage or a variety of Dinoco and Rust-eze themed structures. The set comes with two platforms and multiple, ramps, pillars, and blocks. The main stage design consist of two opening doors, three ramps for the cars to drive up and down on, and white and orange triangle flags. With so many pieces the structures that you can build are quite large. Plus, the pillars and swinging doors are unique to this kind of set and it makes an absolute great addition to the first three.

I am extremely happy that my son received so many Disney's Cars Mega Bloks as Christmas gifts. They have been a popular toy in the house for over a year and I do not see them losing popularity anytime soon. Not just for my son but for his parents too. Normally Mega Bloks and Duplo sets can be a little bit boring when you are use to playing with Legos, but these were actually very easy to enjoy working with because there was such a variety of blocks and props. You can find all of these wonderful sets as well as many other Disney's Cars Mega Bloks sets and vehicles at the Disney's Pixar Cars Mega Bloks Amazon aStore. I recommend anyone to get them because they are a lot of fun and great stepping stones to traditional sized Legos.
