The Christmas Carol train will be available for viewing in Albuquerque on June 5th, 6th and 7th in downtown Albuquerque. It is located behind Albuquerque's legendary Alvarado station, located on 1st and Central. The event is free, but if you want to park in the nearby structure it will cost you $6.
My family and I were able to go see the train for its opening day and were quite pleased with the event. The train is amazingly painted with Disney's Christmas Carol characters on each car. You are presented a ticket as you walk to the train, which is an important item to keep with you as you'll need it throughout the tour. As you stand in line, Christmas carolers sing to you in their old-fashioned attire. A snow blowing machine blows out realistic looking snow to the audience. It is quite fun.
You hand your ticket over to the attendant to be punched as you enter the train. Immediately you are greeted with memorabilia from the movie. Each cable car has a different aspect of the movie, all of which are quite interesting. They have masks, models, 3-D machines, framed art with moving scenes from the movie and so much more. You end the tour with a fun surprise.
Once again you use your ticket by scanning it into the machine. The machine records your email and takes a photo of you. You are instantly transformed into various characters from the movie. The photos are then emailed to you. The last cable car smells of freshly baked gingerbread cookies and a beautiful display of a Christmas dinner is there. It's the perfect place for photo taking.
After you done with the train, be sure to stop by the "movie theater" that allows you to see a free 10 minute 3-D movie preview of The Christmas Carol. It is an amazing preview that makes you think the snow is coming right out at you or the ghosts of Christmas are in the theater with you.
This event will be running throughout the country this summer, so if you miss it in Albuquerque, it may be coming to a city near you.
