Displaying Sports Ticket Stubs; Sports Collectible Memorabilia

Michael Luchies
We are show offs by nature. We give 4th place ribbons and 2nd place trophies. Why do I still have my elementary school band medals? Things we are proud of we like to show to other people. We hang posters, paintings, and decorations not because we need some art in our life but because we want other people to see it. If you have something of value you either hide it away or display it for all. Ticket stubs are a rare and beautiful thing and are worth displaying. Restaurants, sports bars, and places of entertainment purchase sports collectibles to display for customers and to create an atmosphere. We often try to create this atmosphere in our own sports den's, basement bars, and bedrooms.

When brainstorming about how to display your tickets be careful and creative. No ticket display should be permanent. I will never part with my personal collection of memorabilia but still I want to keep the value and condition as high as possible. We live in a cruel world. We are in a time where our idols engage in violent behavior, governments are untrustworthy, and shivery is dead. But why oh why would anyone harm a poor defenseless, harmless little ticket stub!? Why are we so selfish that we are quick to fold our little piece of history in half just so it fits inside our jeans pocket? We ruin memories and accounts of history every time we toss away an event ticket.

What Not to Do
Creased, folded, ripped, torn, soaked, stapled, pasted, taped, and whole punched our tickets stay true to us. When we abuse our tickets like I mentioned in the previous sentence, we not only lower the value of our investment but ruin the display value and attractibility of these small sports collectibles. Tickets are similar to baseball cards in the sense that they are brittle pieces of paper. Many companies that have made protective pages, cases, and top-loaders have extended their services to include tickets. BCW Supplies is a leader in sports memorabilia protection and now make top loaders and plastic storage pages just for ticket stubs both large and small. Check out BCW supplies at BCWSupplies.com.

Display Ideas
My favorite site for ticket stub displays is ThatsmyTicket.com. From albums to lanyards they have it all. Outside of purchasing from a specific ticket stub display website such as thatsmyticket.com, you can find many ideas at a crafts store (I prefer Michaels). Floating picture frames are great for single tickets or multiples. If you are going to combine a ticket stub with pictures, programs, or other items, you may want to purchase picture matting and cut out the spaces for the different sized collectibles that you are going to display.

Whatever you do, don't make it permanent. Even if you never plan on selling the ticket and you think you will leave it in the display forever, you will regret it in the future.
