Disproving Christianity: Refuting the World's Most Followed Religion, a Review

An Informative New Book from the Up and Coming Author David McAfee Presents a Gripping Look at Why Christianity May Not Be What People Think it Is

Jesse Mathewson
David G. McAfee is a 21-year-old student currently attending the University of California, Santa Barbara working on attaining a duel degree in English and Religious Studies. Disproving Christianity is his first book and if I had a crystal ball I would say it is the beginning of a brilliant career as a writer. He has written for the American Atheist Magazine as well as the Canadian Freethinker Magazine as well as a brief internship with "The Santa Barbara Independent."

Obviously, writing is in his blood, and as I read Disproving Christianity I realized that not only was it in his blood but he obviously knows his way around a religion he does not call his own. Disproving Christianity is a gritty yet compelling look into some of the most asked questions regarding Christianity. Many of you are more than likely shaking your heads already after all; we have all seen or heard the multitude of arguments for or against religion, or the lack thereof. And yet the fresh well cited and argued approach David brings to the table leaves one hoping for the second book in what surely should be a series.

His use of the Bible to refute a myriad of arguments for Christianity make one wonder how they could have missed them previously. His use of the cultural approach clearly shows a depth of understanding and knowledge that many will never attain, and yet he shares that knowledge with a briskly paced approach that makes it easy to read right through to the end.

There were only one or two places that may have benefited from a fuller education in the various approaches to Christianity that exist today, the terminology and approaches he used showed that much of his education seems to be based in the Arminian approach, named such after Jacob Arminius as a counter to the Calvinist approach. Many of the arguments he counters successfully are based in the "free will" side of Christianity versus the predestined approach of the more fundamental side of Christianity.

Disproving Christianity is not only an easy read it is one that will increase your knowledge regardless of belief, or unbelief. This book is a must have for any theologians bookshelf, and definitely a book for the freethinkers looking for a better approach to countering the often overwhelming dogma on a day to day basis. As an avid reader and reviewer I would give this book a solid 4 stars on the 1- 5 star scale. And the only reason for not giving it five stars is he doesn't tell us when the next one comes out!

How can you "disprove" when your trade school didn't teach you the most elementary principles of Logic and your highest court of appeal for any authority is your own EGO?

Robert Adair- you call yourself a "Christian" and yet you are among the foulest individuals to walk the face of this earth.

There is a wonderful review of this book on Amazon pointing out that everything in it was plagiarized from a couple of Atheist web sites. It doesn't represent any original research, just the standard Atheist lies like the nonexistent "separation of church and state clause" in the Constitution and that the founders of our country wanted freedom from religion not freedom of religion. People, unlike you Jesse, who want to know the massive evidence for the christian founding of this country should consult "The Christin Life and Character of the Civil Institutions of the United States" by Benjamin F. Morris. This book is Chock full of "verifiable facts" and, more important, provable facts.

Another balanced point of view? Atheism is a neurotic, wish fulfillment fantasy. No one has ever been able to build a civilization on a foundation of Atheism. Your beloved Soviet Slave Empire is a prime example.

all religion can be disproved because religion is not what God wants. He wants a relationship with us. But ok, i'd like to see his take on it all. and well put sheryl young!

Nicely put Sheryl, all I can say is it is an easy read and well written. Check it out, at least this way you will better understand the approach some of us take in looking at religion (Christianity in particular)

My brother was a self described atheist who recently found God, as with everything, not everything is meant for everyone. Better we all have our paths, and practice our beliefs in private as the Bible so eloquently states, " Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself, God, I thank you that I am not like other menrobbers, evildoers, adulterersor even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, God, have mercy on me, a sinner.I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbl

Well, Jesse, you know what I say to this...anyone can analyze the Bible, or call themselves a theologian because they've studied the Bible, but the "natural" (worldly) man cannot discern the spiritual things of God without the eyes of faith (1st Corinthians 2:13-15), or at least without being objective. Many atheists and agnostics have come to know Christ after trying to refute the Bible, especially the New Testament. Josh McDowell ("Evidence that Demands a Verdict" and "More than a Carpenter") and Lee Strobel ("The case for Christ") were both adamant skeptics until they did their research. As was I very reluctant, but something got hold of my heart! When someone proves to me for sure that God does not exist, and that Jesus was actually able to fake all the activities in the Old Testament that point to the Messiah's identity, I will believe this broo-ha-ha.
