Divertimento

A Brubeck Poem

Khara E. House
Tea bags seep in boiling water
And emit sweet aromas before
Being squeezed lifeless and left elsewhere
It's time to pour the milk
And a touch of honey, no sugar
The milk must be stirred in just so
In place of richer cream
And there's no use for powders
It's now time for the silver spoon
Which we use to stir the almost ready tea
At the same time, someone else could rinse
The pot used for boiling the water
And another might serve cookies
It's time to wait
And let it cool for a moment or two
The water is still too hot
And the milk hasn't quite made it
The right shade of tan
It's time to pause and consider
The potential of the flavor
And hope, for a moment, it
Meets expectations
It's time, now, to sip
And burn the tongue
