Divine Intervention: Personal Accounts

Everything Happens for a Reason so Be Grateful for Everything that Life Throws Your Way

Kelli Stowe
Do you believe that we are put here on earth for a purpose, that God and angels watch over us and intervene if we approach deaths door if we haven't fulfilled that purpose? I do and these are my stories.

Hanging by a Wing and a Prayer

When I was a teenager my friend invited me to go to a showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Her sister's boyfriend had a small pickup truck and that's what her sister's boyfriend, her sister, her and I were going in. We all couldn't fit into the cab so my friend and I had to ride in the bed. This was before it was against the law to ride in the bed of a pickup.

We set off on our thirty some odd mile ride with excitement. A couple of miles from where we left is a curve to enter onto another road, my friend's sister's boyfriend was driving to fast, I was thrown forward and almost flew out of the pickup's bed right into an orange orchard. The only thing that saved me was that my upper legs caught on the side of the bed above the drivers side rear wheel. I was scared to death and my friend's sister's boyfriend kept on driving.

Broken Wings

In the summer of 1989 my three children and I were evicted by my mother from my grandma's home. I called my friend (the same friend as above) and told her what had happened so she invited me and my children to come and stay with her, her husband and her children until we found a place to live.

She told me that her children were at their grandmothers home and it was time for them to come home so to kill two birds with one stone we agreed that she would purchase the airline tickets and would pick up her two children on our way to the airport and escort them home.

I then made arrangements for a mutual friend to drive us 102 miles to pick up our friend's children and then 120 miles to the airport. Everything was going smoothly until his truck had a flat tire between where we picket up the children and the airport. I purchased a tire, they put it on and we were on our way again. We finally arrived at the airport only to find out that we had missed the flight and would be put on another one when one was available.

By this time I was very concerned because the children hadn't had dinner and all I had was enough to purchase a bag of popcorn for two six year olds, two four year olds and a two year old to share. I called my friend and she was going to wire some money but the place to pick up transfer was closed so we kept ourselves busy by walking around the big airport.

As we walked one of the children noticed a white bag under an empty seat so we went over to find out what was inside. We opened it, found an unopened box of Hawaiian chocolates inside so we went to the waiting area where we were to catch our flight and the children ate the Hawaiian chocolates and fell asleep.

A maintenance worker noticed us there and kindly brought us blankets to cover up with which was so nice.

As I sat there watching the children sleep I was amazed at how well behaved they all had been throughout the whole ordeal. Normally they would have fought with one another, ran around like a bunch of crazy monkeys or complained but they acted like angels.

That morning we boarded our flight after waiting fifteen hours. We were put at the back of the plane and the children were well taken care of. The stewardesses were so great they kept bringing the meals and made sure that the children were content.

After a few hours in flight we arrived at our destination and as we taxied to the terminal I looked out of the window and saw the wreckage of the air plane that we were supposed to be on. I was overwhelmed by the sight of the plane and knew deep down in my heart that it was a divine intervention. I thanked God and my grandma for saving us from being on that flight.

One Wild Ride

My friend (the same friend from the other two stories) was dating a man and arranged a date for me with his friend. We took a ride on their motorcycles to this secluded spot in the woods where we talked, sat around a campfire and was drinking a bottle of Jack Daniels. We stayed there for a couple of hours and then decided to go to my friend's date's house and on the way there as we were riding down the highway I passed out on the back of my date's motorcycle that did not have a sissy bar on it.

I woke up when we arrived at his house (it was ironic because when I was getting off the motorcycle I fell). I found out that when we were on the highway a driver in a car next to us threw out some trash that nearly hit us, my date had got upset and threw something back at the driver's car and sped away at a high speed.

I don't know why I wasn't thrown off the motorcycle, on the plane that wrecked or thrown out of the pickup truck but I do know that because I wasn't the purpose that God chose for me hadn't been fulfilled.

Very much enjoyed this. Yes, God does allow things to come our way for a reason. Life is nothing if it isn't a big learning experience.

These are all powerful first-hand accounts. I am glad you are able to share them with us-because you're here and because you are reminding all of us to be thankful and purposeful every day.
