DIY: 5 Design Ideas for Leftover Wallpaper

Amanda Abella
Designing a high end looking room can get very expensive. Fortunately, some great design projects can come from something as simple as leftover wallpaper.

If you are on a tight budget designing with scraps of wallpaper is a beautiful and inexpensive way to add a professional looking touch to any room.

DIY Leftover Design Wallpaper Tip #1: Make a Wallpaper Border

Use modern and contemporary wallpaper designs to make a border. You can add a touch to a hallway or moldings. Wallpaper borders are a simple and inexpensive way to add some interest to a dull room.

DIY Leftover Wallpaper Desgin Tip #2: Cover the Inside of a Lamp

This is one of my favorite things to do with leftover wallpaper. By covering the inside of the lamp you can add a decorative touch to a room without being overwhelming.

DIY Leftover Wallpaper Design Tip #3: Wallpaper a Headboard

Add a little spice to the bedroom by wallpapering a dull headboard. This is particularly useful if you are making your own headboard out of wood.

DIY Leftover Wallpaper Design Tip #4: Wallpaper Decals

Decals on a wall are great for a child's room or a craft room. The best part is that you don't need wallpaper glue so the results are not so permanent. All you would need is some wallpaper, a template that you can find online or in a book, an exacto knife, poster board, and craft glue. DIY Leftover Wallpaper Design Tip #5: Fix that awkward bump out in the wall.

Sometimes walls have bump outs. That is to say a part of the wall sticks out in the middle of the room. Maybe the former owner of the home had a fireplace there and someone decided to get rid of it. Maybe the original designer of the room though that a bump out was a good idea. Whatever the case, with some leftover wallpaper you can make the design less awkward and add a fascinating focal point to the room.
