If you are strapped for cash but love the look of antique furniture, I am sure that you have noticed the shortage of inexpensive antique furniture available. Having antique furniture in the home and is a luxury that most people cannot afford unless they have inherited an antique piece of furniture. Often when antique furniture is marketed under $200, it is worn and torn to the extent that the initial craftsmanship and beauty that went into the piece has long been faded. If you don't mind cheating a little bit, and have a dresser that you want to antique, here is a quick and simply way to make a current day dresser appear timeless and antique.

What You Will Need

A Dresser

Embossed Wallpaper with a Regal Design

Scissors or Cutting Shears

Tinted Furniture Glaze

Wallpaper Brush

Step One

Cut your wallpaper to the size of the top of your dresser. If your dresser has a border you will have to cut your wallpaper small enough to display the border of the dresser when the wallpaper is applied to the center.

Tip: Choose wallpaper in a regal design that would have been seen in the time your "antique dresser" was made.

Step two

Apply the wallpaper to the top of your dresser exactly the same way you would apply wallpaper to a wall. If you have never applied wallpaper or are unsure of how to do it, there will always be instruction on how to apply wallpaper on the back of your roll. Let the paper dry for approximately ten minutes.

Tip: When applying wallpaper to the dresser be sure to press the paper in hard enough so there are no loose corners or bubbles of air.

Step Three

Open the can or bottle of tinted glaze and make sure to mix it well before applying. Place a generous amount of glaze directly on to your wallpaper and quickly take your wallpaper brush to evenly distribute the glaze. Repeat this process until you have achieved the antique finish that you like.

Tip: If there are some crevices that you just can't seem to apply the glaze to evenly, don't worry about it. These little imperfections make your "antique dresser" look more genuinely antiqued.

Spending well under $50 we have managed to transform a simple current day dresser into an elegant and regal antique dresser.
