Type
Do you or a friend know how to write calligraphy? Do you have access to a computer? The first thing you should decide when designing your Bar Mitzvah invitations is what they will be printed on and how they will be made. Regular handwritten invitations will look cheap, but if they're individually written in calligraphy that will be a fancy touch that many of your guests will be impressed by. Paying someone to do this can get expensive, but if you or a friend knows calligraphy it will make for a great inexpensive addition. However, if calligraphy isn't an option, you'll want to use a computer. Make sure that there's a printer attached and if you plan to use colored ink that it allows for that.
Materials
Instead of using regular typing paper, which can look cheap and will rip and tear easily, invest in a few packages of card stock for just a few dollars a pack. More than anything, it will give the illusion that you've spent a considerable amount of money on your invitations. Card stock comes in a variety of colors, including white, cream, blue, and orange, so your options are endless! In addition, for just a few dollars you can buy packs of sticker paper for your printer that you can use to create personalized seals for your envelopes.
Word Processing
If you're using a computer to design your Bar Mitzvah invitations, make sure that you have a good word processing program like Microsoft Word in which to input all of your information. Not only does the computer create a polished professional look, but many word processing programs offer special templates that will help you when designing the invitations. They can show you what information your invitations can include, your different font options, and even colorful decorations and accents.
Planning Ahead
Even though your guest list might be iron clad and you don't plan to invite anyone else, always make more invitations than you think you'll need. You never know if one might be spilled on or is printed wrong.
The bottom line is that with all the options available on the computer and in craft stores, your options are limitless when it comes to making great Bar Mitzvah invitations!
