DIY Beauty: Amazing Avocado Recipes for Your Skin and Hair

Wendy Rose Gould
Ever wonder what kinds of chemicals you're rubbing onto your face, body and hair? Well, if you make the product yourself you know exactly what you're getting. These 3 recipes incorporate a few simple and all-natural items that leave you glowing and beautiful. All three use avocado as their main ingredient.

Before we get started, here are a few interesting benefits of avocado:

The green stuff is super rich in natural oils and vitamin E.

They are great for soothing sensitive skin types

They are mega-hydrating for dry skin

It helps to neutralize free radicals

Here are the recipes:

Recipe #1: Va-va-Vonderful Avocado Hair Mask

For: Dry, dull, breaking hair

This recipe makes a great conditioner for brittle and damaged hair. It's super cheap to make and easy, to boot! You will need the following items:

1 avocado

1 coconut (medium sized)

First, peel your avocado and place the contents in a small-medium sized bowl. Next, cut your coconut in half. Be careful not to spill any of the coconut milk!

Mash your avocado until it is a smooth paste. Try to mash up any of the chunks you may see. Once this is done, add 1/2 of the coconut milk. Mix the items together until you reach a texture that is smooth and consistent. It should be about as thick as mayonnaise.

Comb the mixture through your hair or simply apply it with your hands. Let it set for 10-15 minutes and then hop in the shower to wash it out. Rinse with warm water and towel dry.

*Did you know that coconut milk is another amazing natural product? It has special fats that are attracted to hair strands. They penetrate the hair adding all sorts of nutrients to your locks!

Recipe #2: Nourishing Avocado Mask for your Face

For: Dry skin (not for acne-prone skin types)

This is a great concoction to mix up when you're face is feeling dry and dull! Here's what you need:

1 avocado

1 egg yolk

3 tsp. fresh milk

Once you have everything you need, cut the avocado open and remove the contents from the shell. Place them into a small-medium sized bowl and mash them until you have a smooth paste with little to no clumps.

Next, separate your egg yolk from your egg white. Place the egg yolk into a separate bowl and add the milk. Beat these two together until it is frothy and fully-mixed. Add the egg mixture to your avocado and stir until you have a smooth and consistent texture.

After you've cleaned your face with your normal face-wash, dry your face and apply the mask onto your skin and neck. Avoid the eye area. Let the mask sit for 20-30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Gently pat dry.

Recipe #3: Creamy Avocado and Honey moisturizer (for face)

For: dull, dry skin

This is a wonderful moisturizing treatment for your skin. It removes built up dead skin cells, moisturizes and protects your skin. What you need:

1 avocado

1 tbs. honey (try local and organic!)

1 tsp. heavy cream

After you've peeled and mashed your avocado, add the honey and heavy cream. Mix thoroughly until you have a smooth paste. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and gently pat dry.

*Did you know: Cleopatra used heavy cream in her skin regimen. It is a lactic acid meaning it exfoliates skin and leaves it looking beautiful and glowy!
