Now, it is possible to buy birthday party invitations at a local party supply store. Blue's Clues may or may not be in-stock, but even if they are, you are going to end up with a traditional "greeting card" style invitation card. Will generic store-bought invitations live up to the rest of your Blue's Clues party? If not, I recommend making your own invitations. Here are three great invitation ideas that can really set the tone for an outstanding party experience.
Invitation #1 - Mail Box Birthday Party Invitations
Mailbox is the character on Blues Clues that brings all of the great news to Blue and Joe. You could have Mailbox deliver the news of your party.
Necessary Materials:
Purple, white and red construction paper
Scissors
Glue
Brass Brads
Googly eyes
1. Create the basic card. Fold a purple piece of construction paper in half. Glue a white piece of construction paper on the the inside. You should have a 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" card.
2. Compose the card. Write down all of the information regarding the party. Make sure to include the time, place, and if meals are going to be served.
3. Turn the card into a mailbox. Create a traditional mail box flag out of the red construction paper. Fasten this flag to the card using a brass brad.
4. Transform the mailbox into the Mailbox Character. Glue the googly eyes to the front of the card. Add a nose and a smile. Your finished product should look like the Mailbox from Blue's Clues. This will make a great birthday party invitation.
Invitation #2 - Birthday Clues
The Blue's Clues television show features a hunt for clues and a puzzle. This birthday party invitation is built on the same concept.
Necessary Materials:
Blue construction paper
Envelope
Scissors
Index Cards
1. Create Blue's Paws. Create a series of Blue's Paw Prints. Every child will need four paws. Find a templete of Blue's paw, or freehand one and cut it out.
2. Make the clues. On each set of four paws, draw the following: a cake, balloons, and a party hat. On the fourth paw, write your party details such as time, location and if meals will be provided.
3. Prepare the envelope. On the envelope, write a Blue's Clues style rhyme such as: "Here's a clue just for you, balloons, a hat, and cake too."
With this birthday party invitation, you are setting a Blue's Clues mood before the children even show up!
Invitation #3 - Handy Dandy Notebooks
In every episode, Joe finds clues left by Blue. When he finds them, he stores them in his Handy Dandy Notebook. If you are planning a clue hunt, this birthday party invitation can set the stage for you game.
Necessary Materials:
Steno Pads (handheld notebooks)
Yarn
Markers
1. Create the notebook. Attach a marker to each notebook with brightly colored yarn. You should make sure and attach them well enough that children won't lose the marker.
2. Create the invitation. In the very front page of the notebook, write your party details such as time, location and if meals will be provided.
3. Create the mood. Hand deliver each birthday party invitation/notebook and tell the children to make sure and bring the handy dandy notebook for a clue hunt.
