DIY Christmas Table Centerpieces

DIY Christmas centerpieces can be cheap and charming. These are two Christmas table centerpiece ideas including sugar cube and reindeer craft.

DIY Christmas Centerpieces: Sugar Cube Igloo

One look at the Disney Fun Channel confirmed my vague notion that you could probably build an igloo from sugar cubes for a Christmas table centerpiece. Fortunately, their building methods look a lot sturdier than what I had in mind so you won't wind up with a leaning tower of pieces. They suggest starting with a base row of sugar cubes around a 7 inch diameter circle with an opening for the entrance. Then make a mortar of eggs and sugar and build up a row at a time for 10 rows. The arch and roof can be made separately and glued on. Put it on a tray and dust the whole thing with large grained baker's sugar to make it sparkle like ice. Cover the bottom of the tray with coconut flakes to make it look like snow.

This needs to be a Christmas table centerpiece so save some sugar cubes to make piles of gift packages by the entrance for the lucky Inuit family. Use food color to paint the packages. Tie on some ribbon and stick on little bows. You can glue some cubes together to make packages of different sizes.

DIY Christmas Centerpieces: Reindeer Craft Herd

This Christmas centerpiece idea uses reindeer craft to make a herd of ornamental dough ornaments. You can get a large 5 inch reindeer shaped cookie cutter ($2.79 at Amazon). While the dough is soft and before baking, straighten the legs and feet a little so it will stand more easily. After baking, glue two or three cookies together to make it even sturdier. If it still wobbles, glue the feet to small metal washers available at any hardware store. The dough is very easy to make with flour, salt and water, and this recipe from allfreecrafts.com even gives fast microwave instructions.

Coordinate this DIY Christmas centerpiece with your table color scheme and vary the materials for an interesting look. You could paint this reindeer craft herd in gold and silver, and glue gold and silver glitter on some. Wrap gold and silver cord all around some of the reindeer and braid the cord on some with a contrasting color ribbon. Arrange them in a forest of gold and silver candles to complete the look for this Christmas table centerpiece.
