DIY Conch Pots: Sea-swept Flower Planters You Can Make with Ease

Chelsea Hoffman

Conch pots are adorable potting containers that make use of the seashells you gather from the beach or buy from craft and decor shops. Using a conch shell, you can transform your container garden into a whimsical garden of enchantment inspired by the ocean. Knowing how to make a flower pot out of a conch shell gives you the opportunity to add character to a small patio environment or even a flowery table centerpiece.

Things You'll Need
  • Conch shell
    Power drill
    1 cup river stone
    1 cup peat moss
    1 cup potting soil

Step 1

Drill three holes in the bottom rounded side of a large conch. This provides you with drainage.

Step 2

Line the bottom of the conch with the river rocks.

Step 3

Mix a blend of peat moss and potting soil in equal measurements. Use a blend of potting soil that is recommended for the type of flower of plant you are wanting to grow in your conch pot.

Step 4

Cover the rocks in the bottom of the conch with the blend of peat moss and potting soil.

Step 5

Sow the seed of the plant you wish to grow in the center of the conch pot. Follow the recommended growing specs for the plant. For instance, zinnias grow well in a large conch pot, but they require lots of sunlight.

This is a cute idea! I had conch shells as centerpieces at my wedding. I wonder what our guests did with all of them...
