Helps for Elegant Invitations

DIY damask wedding invitations could be a lovely addition to your wedding. Damask themed weddings are making a huge come-back as they unite old-school with something new and unique. The sleek look can be incorporated into a vintage type wedding - or a very modern style. Making your own wedding invitations can be extremely rewarding, but it does take thought, planning and time to complete your process. If you're wanting your own personalized look, have time and perhaps are looking for lower cost invitations, these suggestions will be helpful.

Damask Wedding Invitations

What you will need:

Time to actually put together your invitations
Plain cards and envelopes of the shape you choose - invitations can be folded or post card type
Access to computer and some computer knowledge
Downloaded or purchased damask paper
Plain accent colored paper
Narrow ribbon - 1/8 to 1/4 in. width
Paper cutter
Glue sticks
Scissors

Directions:

1. Decide upon wording for invitation and print invitation before folding cards. Use somewhat of a fancy script, such as Black Chancery, that blends well with the damask theme of the wedding. The cards usually have a template to help with the printing. Ask someone else to look at your invitation prior to printing. [Print trials on used or regular computer paper.]

2. After printing invitations, cut damask paper to fit front of invitation and glue.

3. Attach any special additions with glue. I used plain light brown strips about 1/4 inch wide and glued them on invitation to make sort of a window pane look. You could print a poem on the back of your invitation about the "window" of your lives together. This would truly personalize your invitation.

A small bow of brown ribbon was then attached to the cross pieces. I started with pieces about 4 - 5 inches and trimmed edges.

4. To decorate the envelope, cut strip of paper with scrap booking scissors. Measurement should be the length of your envelope and about 3/4 inch wide. Glue damask paper to left side of envelope, leaving about 1/2 inch edge.

5. It is best to hand-write when addressing your invitations. However, you may choose to use the same script as for your actual invitation and print clear labels to attach. This is helpful if you have poor hand writing, have a disability or if you want to continue using your names for lists. Note: Be sure to check and re-check invitations to your list. You don't want to have overlooked anyone.

6. You can also make your own return address labels, if you choose. Some will have wedding clip art that can be included in printing.

7. It's fun to use some sort of special stamp for mailing, but that is your decision.

I downloaded damask paper and glued it to front of invitation. [If you will be making many invitations, you could use gift wrap, scrap booking or wallpaper for your damask paper choice.]

There are many web sites available for a variety of free damask paper downloads. You will find damask in a variety of colors as well as the black and white. Black and white damask invitations [wedding theme] with an accent of red would be very showy, indeed.

If you're making many invitations, allow at least a week to prepare them. Have your names and addresses ready to go several weeks in advance. Also, have the printing for your invitation planned and ready to go. Those things, along with interruptions you will have, always take longer than you expect.
