The supplies you will need are:
Two matching kitchen dishcloths
Yarn of a matching or contrasting color
A large eye needle
A scissors
You will start out with one dishcloth and remove the tags if any. Thread your needle with the yarn.
Fold the dishcloth with the front facing up. One dishcloth will open to the left, and one will open to the right. At the bottom of the dishcloth, You will insert your threaded needle into center, about an inch and a half from the bottom. Insert your needle and sew in and out all the way around the bottom of the cloth. When you reach the end of the cloth, just continue on around back to the center of the first half. Gather the cloth on the yarn evenly all the way around. Leave a couple of inches of yarn and trim. Tie the ends of the yarn in a little bow, with the ties hanging down.
Repeat all of these steps on the second dishcloth.
After you have that done, you will again thread your needle with the yarn. You will overlap the fronts toward each other about 2 inches. Insert your needle between where the two overlap. Sew in and out all the way around again. At the center back, you will overlap the two cloths the same distance as you did on the front. When you get to the beginning, come up right next to the first stitch. You will go down the front with the needle about a half inch from inside the cloth. Make one slanted stitch from left to right and go down another half inch and make another stitch from left to right and repeat two more times.
When you get done with the fourth slanted stitch, bring the needle up from the opposite bottom side, and crossover your first stitch, making an x.
Come up under the next stitch and crossover the stitch making another x. Repeat for the last two stitches. You will be back at the beginning now.
Gather your stitches evenly, as you did for the bottoms, but not as tight. Leave extra yarn for tying the bow and cut the ends.
When you have completed this, you have a little pair of britches. You can print out this little saying to pin on the front of the britches.
Don't get excited,
Don't be misled.
These are not for you,
But your dishes instead.
Just snip the threads,
And pull out the stitches.
Now you will have 2 dishcloths,
But you've lost your britches.
These make excellent wedding or shower gifts.
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.
