DIY Door Framed Wall Mirror

A framed mirror will compliment the decor of any room. By using an old closet door, you can convert it into a framed mirror that will make your home coveted by even the savviest decorator. The steps are easy and the ideas and themes are countless in this do-it-yourself weekend project.

Tools You Will Need

• Closet Door, hardware removed

• Sand Paper

• Paint color of your choice

• 16" x 60" beveled wall mirror

• Cheese cloth

• Clear fast setting epoxy

• Painters tape

• Decorative elements

• 5 Coat hooks or decorative knobs to coordinate with paint and decor

DIRECTIONS:

First, sand the surface of the door to remove the finish, paint, and to smooth out imperfections. Once removed, wipe with cheese cloth to remove all dust and particles from the surface. Next, apply your paint to the door. Remember to paint all sides and allow to dry thoroughly.

After drying, lay the door on its back with the hole for the door knob at the top. Ensure that your door is laying longways on your work surface. Next, use the epoxy to glue the mirror to the door. Leave about 1"-2" of the door uncovered from the top and 4"-6" from the bottom so that it frames your mirror. Be sure to position the mirror so that it covers the hole from the door knob. Using painter's tape, tape the mirror firmly to the door and allow the epoxy to cure according to the package directions. (or at least 24 hours)

Now, it is time to make your door-framed mirror your own. Using epoxy or hardware appropriate for your hooks, attach your chosen decor to match the room your mirror will go in. Depending on the decor of the room you will be hanging your mirror, you have many options on designs to use. Suppose you are hanging your framed mirror in your bathroom that has a seaside theme; decorate with white coat hooks and sea shells or rope. Maybe your home has a rustic theme; use horseshoes and barbed wire.

Using your do-it-yourself framed mirror in the kid's room is a great idea as well. For your Little Princess, paint the door frame pink or purple and decorate with tiaras and feather boas, and don't forget the extra "bling". For the All-Star in your life, paint the colors of his favorite team and decorate with bats and balls or hockey pucks.

After allowing your embellishments to dry, attach heavy duty hanging hardware to the back of your door, about 4 inches from the top, hang and enjoy.
