Decorating your home in a patriotic theme for the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, or Flag Day is easy! You don't need a big budget for these easy, inexpensive do it yourself decorations. All you'll need is a lot of red, white, and blue, and a little bit of fun. Or is it a little bit of red, white and blue and a lot of fun? Oh, you decide!

Here are five do it yourself (DIY) patriotic, home decorating ideas that are easy and inexpensive:

An American Flag. Don't overlook the most obvious of patriotic home decorations! Raise your American Flag in honor of our freedom! Although some people have a flagpole in their yard, most don't. Don't let that stop you from flying the Star Spangled Banner, though. You can purchase an American flag (complete with pole and mounting bracket) at any hardware, home improvement, discount, or craft store.

A Patriotic Wreath. Since the front door is the focal point of most homes, show your American spirit by hanging a patriotic wreath on it! The variety of styles in patriotic wreaths is amazing! You can choose anything from traditional to glitzy- let your personality come through! Patriotic wreaths are available from high-end department stores to dollar stores, and everywhere in between.

Red, White, and Blue Plants. Check out your local home improvement or gardening stores- you'll be sure to find pots of red geraniums and spikes with a small American flag stuck in there. What a perfect patriotic accent for a porch or walkway! For a touch of Americana in the yard, consider red, white, and blue petunias. They're so beautiful and cheerful! Inside the house, use cut flowers- maybe red carnations with white baby's breath in a blue vase- for a 4th of July centerpiece.

Patriotic Table Settings. What could be more festive than seeing a 4th of July table decked out in red, white and blue? Stars and stripes tablecloths are available everywhere tablecloths are sold. Set the table with blue plates, red cups, white napkins and white silverware. Don't have it? Buy paper or plastic-ware at your local party, grocery, or discount store. Fun, fun!

Red, White, and Blue Balloons and Streamers. Sometimes the easiest and least expensive decorations are the most overlooked. Everyone loves balloons and streamers! Red, white and blue balloon bouquets with red, white, and blue steamers hanging from the ceilings screams, "Party!" Balloons and streamers just have a way of putting a smile on people's faces. Check discount and dollar stores first for balloons and streamers- they're cheaper there.

You don't need a lot of money or a lot of decorating savvy to make your home festive and patriotic this 4th of July. First, think red, white, and blue. Then, think fun! You'll be surprised at how far a big attitude and a little bit of money can take you!
