DIY Fabric Paper Doll Craft

Ann Siper
This fabric paper doll is an easy fabric craft for little girls of all ages. If you love paper dolls, but need them to not tear, then try making this fun and easy fabric paper doll inspire craft! You can even make these as a sweet gift for a little girl you know.

To Make a Fabric Paper Doll You Will Need:

Felt

Heavy Weight Craft Interfacing

Fabric Glue

Googly Eyes

Cardboard

Scissors

Floral Wire

No Fray

Sewing machine

To get started you want to trace out the body of a doll on paper. You can even use an old paper doll as your pattern. Trace this onto your flesh colored fabric (felt or heavy fabric) and onto your heavy weight Pellon craft web. Using fabric will allow this paper doll to travel easy this summer on road trips.

Use your iron to iron the two together. You can also lay one on top of the other and sew them together around the whole seams. You want to do this close to the edge, about 1/8 inch in.

Tip: If you did not use felt for the body of the fabric paper doll, then use no fray on the edges.

Now, on to decorating the fabric paper doll. You can do this in a variety of ways, so I will give some ideas and tips here.

To use up leftover sewing materials you can sew on buttons as eyes. This is also a great look for a more homemade doll. Try using white buttons and colored thread to mimic the eye color you wish.

Buttons also work great for the nose as well, but if you want to get more details with your fabric paper doll then try using fabric paint. These come in paint pens that's are super easy for kids to draw with.

You can also use puff paint to make the mouth three dimensional as well. Using paint in place of the buttons will also allow this fabric paper doll to roll up easy and pack in a suit case to travel in the car this summer.

Now, on to the clothes for your fabric paper doll. You want to use that same paper pattern to make the outline for the clothes. You can simply cut them out and iron them on to a lighter weight interfacing as well. To get them to stick to your doll simply glue on the rough side of Velcro strips onto the back of the clothes.

You can press the clothes onto the fabric paper doll and they will stick!
