DIY Fashion: 3 Ways to Make Hot Skirts

Dovinea
Show your style this summer by making a few of your own skirts. There are easy, inexpensive ways that allow you to recycle clothing you already have and turn them into fab pieces of your wardrobe.

SweatsKirt:
This is the simplest method to a diy skirt. Find one of your old sweatshirts that you no longer wear, especially if you have stains on the sleeves or around the neck, these areas are going to be removed anyway.

To get started, lay the sweatshirt upside down on a table. Determine the length you feel the most comfortable in. This can be done by measuring the length of another skirt that you have that fits well. Now, using a measuring tape, measure from the waistline of the sweatshirt down, toward the neckline and draw a line across the sweatshirt. Then, simply cut across the line. For extra style, you can cut the line at an angle.

Tip: When using this idea, make sure that the waistband of the sweatshirt will stay around your waist when turned into a skirt.

Recycled Denim Mini:
This is also a simple project that requires no sewing.

Start by finding a pair of jeans that fit your waistline well. Then, lay the jean out and use an existing skirt as a template to determine the length needed. Lay the skirt over the top of the jeans and draw a line across the bottom. Then, simply cut the legs off along the line. If the line is lower than the crotch of the jeans, simply make a cut across the area of the crotch to open it up, this creates an extra rugged look. If you're not into the rugged look, simply cut off the area that is hanging down.

Terry Wrap:
With this idea, you will be creating the perfect "summer at the beach" attire.

To get started you'll need a funky terry cloth towel and two simple buttons. Once you've found the perfect beach towel to match your favorite bikini, hold the towel with one corner in each hand. Take the corner in your left hand and wrap it around, under the side in your right hand. Holding the towel at a comfortable position on your waist, mark the underneath of the side in your right hand where to two meet. This is where you will place your first button. Now, holding the side in your left hand in place, wrap the other side over and mark the layer underneath, the area where the corner meets, this will be where you will place your second button. Now that you have determined the placement of the buttons, sew them on where you have made the marks, cut a simple slit in the corners of the towel and now you have the perfect terry wrap skirt. Time for the beach!

Tip: Make sure you cut the slits to fit the buttons, if they're too big, the buttons will come out!

These are just a few simple ways to diy your look, providing you with great ways to turn what was once old, into new and save tons of money in the process. Once you get started with these ideas, your creative side will come out and you may never buy new again!
