DIY Faux Wallpaper Cutouts Step 1: Begin by determining the style that you will be creating. For instance, in a floral dining room you may wish to use hydrangeas as the cutout or lilacs will also work well. Choose a design and then create a stencil to use. More than one stencil of the floral pattern will create more depth and make the faux wallpaper cutouts create a realistic looking design in the room.
DIY Faux Wallpaper Cutouts Step 2: Using the stencils that you have made, begin tracing the stencils onto the paper of your choice. Heavy duty cardstock works well for this as an inexpensive element however, prepasted wallpaper that is textured in a solid color will also work great.
DIY Faux Wallpaper Cutouts Step 3: Once you have traced the floral prints onto the paper of your choice then you may begin cutting them out. A craft knife works well for this but for larger designs scissors may also work well for this step of the wallpaper cutout craft.
DIY Faux Wallpaper Cutouts Step 4: Determine the layout for the room. You walls should be painted a solid color so that the large cutouts can be laid around the walls to create a wallpaper look without actually applying full strips of wallpaper.
DIY Faux Wallpaper Cutouts Step 5: Using the wallpaper glue (if you chose to use cardstock) or simply wetting the prepasted wallpaper cutouts, begin placing the wallpaper cutouts onto the walls in your desired spots. The cutouts should be placed in a manner that makes the room look as though it has been wallpapered with a floral print wallpaper.
DIY Faux Wallpaper Cutouts Step 6: Use a popsicle stick to gently push out any excess glue that remains behind the cutouts once placed on the walls. This will prevent any bubbles from forming and it will help to prevent the edges of the cutouts from curling up later on.
