DIY Floral Monogram Wreaths
Make Your Own Monogram Wreaths to Hang on Church Doors, Walls or Even Tables
(All materials can be found at your local craft and/or dollar store)
Styrofoam circles (size depends on how big you want your letters)
XACTO Knife
Bunches of fake flowers (color and amount of choice) I used about 15 to create mine.
Tacky Glue or Glue Gun (either will work)
Ribbon (color/fabric of choice) used to hang letters
Small Straight pins
Stainless Steal pad
Large template of Letters needed **
** I free-handed mine, but you can also print out a large copy of a letter in the font of your choice (the more intricate, the more difficult!) and use the format options to make it an outline. Then cut that out to use on your Styrofoam.
- Use letter template or free-hand one letter on each Styrofoam circle. Make sure your letters are reasonably thick. If the letter legs are too thin, they will not hold your flowers and will be too weak to withstand cutting with your knife.
- Place your circles on a hard surface (a table or a wooden floor will do) and with an XACTO knife, carefully cut out each letter. Be especially careful about not going all the way through each letter too hard or you could mark your surface. Also, take your time to keep each cut as smooth as possible and so that you don't accidently ruin your letter. Repeat for the other letter.
- Once both letters are cut out, you can carefully smooth the edges with a piece of stainless steal if you would like, but if you cut carefully enough, you probably won't need that.
- Begin prepping your flowers by pulling the flower heads off their stems. There should be a small bit of the head (a plastic piece) that you can use to push into the Styrofoam. If not, you can cut a small piece of the stem to use to attach the flower head to the letter.
- Once you have your flower heads, you can begin arranging them in the letter. Push each head in, do not use any glue at first, and arrange all flowers the way you would like them to look. Make sure you pack the flower heads as tightly together as you can. Be sure to put them along the edges of each letter as well.
- After flowers have been arranged the way you would like, go back and carefully pull each head out, fill the hole with glue and then reinsert the flower head. Continue this process throughout each letter.
- After giving the letters some time to dry (I left mine for 30 minutes, just to be sure), hold them up to mimic what they will look like hanging. Use the push pins to doubly secure any of the flowers that may need it. (Be sure to insert pins on an angle or they may pop out of the back of the letter) Also use pins to secure the flowers along the edges.
- After all flowers are secure, take a length of your ribbon and double it (loop it around so that it has 2 equal lengths. Take the looped end and using glue and straight pins, secure it to the back of your letter. Tie the ends at the top, into a pretty bow.
- When finished, attached to the front doors of the church, of your home, the front of your sweetheart or head table or anywhere else you would like.
