DIY Gold Wedding Invitations

Every bride and groom, especially in these tough economic times, is looking to save money on their wedding. One great way to do this is by making your own invitations. It is not only easy, but cost effective as well -especially if you are inviting a lot of guests! One great style, especially for this year, is to incorporate gold into your invitations. This is a guide to doing just that.

Just by checking Google you can see that there are dozens of kits available for making gold wedding invitations. These can range in price from $30 to over $130. Formal-Invitations is a great site that offers rates as low as 66 cents per invitation.

If you want to round up your bridesmaids and make this a purely do it yourself project you will need gold foil or paint, white card stock, envelopes, glue, and any other decorations that you like such as ribbons.

First, you want to decide whether you will be printing your invitations on a computer or having someone like a calligrapher write them all out by hand. Both have their advantages, but printers are much easier to find than calligraphers!

Next, print the text of the invitations themselves in the center of the card stock, leaving the majority of the sheet bare. This is where you get creative and put your own spin on things. You can cut out strips of foil, different designs for each invitation, or use a stencil and incorporate a personal design. No matter the design, just make sure that it is something that reflects your personality and that of your future spouse. If you don't like the gold metallic look you can have the same effect with a watercolor paint. Just make sure you have tested the paint out beforehand and allowed it to dry so that you can make sure that you like the finished product! Some designs that you might want to stay away from are stars and hearts, as they are a bit too cliché, but you can never go wrong with incorporating your and your future spouse's initials.

After you have glued your foil down or painted your design, allow your invitations to lie on a flat surface so that they are completely dry. While, they are doing that, decorate your envelopes to match. When everything is dry, you will have gorgeous unique hand-hand invitations that not only reflect your personality, but will represent one of the hottest colors of 2010!
