When you plant carrot seeds in your garden, make sure you work the soil in early spring. It's important to work your soil in early spring so that it is loose.
If you live in a cold area you can plant your seeds 3/8 of an inch in the soil.
Make sure to space your seeds at least fifteen inches or wider depending on your preference (Keep in mind that carrot roots fork out).
In order to have a good batch of carrots, all you need to use is a good quality compost to enrich your soil. Fertilizers that have endomycorrhiza, kelp, and humate are a few excellent strong root builders you can use in your garden.
If you are pro-environment, there are plenty of environmentally safe fertilizers available at your local garden store.
If you don't want to use fertilizers in your garden you don't have to.
When you decide to grow your carrots, the soil should have a nice rich texture. Make sure to follow the directions given on the bottle because you don't want to over-fertilize. If you do, you will have deformed carrots.
If you want a big carrot make sure you give the carrot room to grow.
The more soil and space you give your carrot, the bigger the carrot will grow. If you want carrots all year around, you can grow a new batch of carrots after the first carrots have grown. Place a small layer of mulch on the top of the seeds so the soil stays moist.
There isn't a specific type of mulch, any kind will work perfectly fine.
This is important so the soil stays moist while the seeds grow underground. After the carrots start to sprout, you can concentrate the mulch around the plant.
The carrots should be fully grown after three to four weeks. In order to have a fall bath of carrots you need to give yourself about two to three months before fall comes. This will give your carrots time to grow before the fall and winter cold comes.
