DIY Guide: Installing Blown-in Insulation in an Attic

Many people choose to use blown in insulation in order to seal their attic. All attics should have the best possible insulation in the attic because it definitely helps to conserve utilities. Many homeowners choose to install their own blown-in insulation.

The first step of installing blown-in insulation is to take a few accurate measurements of the area where the individual will be installing blown-in insulation. This allows individuals to know how much blown-in insulation will be required for insulation in the attic. In order to complete, the insulation in the attic project individuals will need to gather a few important materials other than the blown-in insulation to get the job done.

Individuals that are installing blown-in insulation in the attic should always make protect their facial area, eyes and outer skin. For people who have recessed lights, ceiling lights installed in the ceiling, they must do one additional to install blown-in installation. Users take their flashing and cut off enough flashing to make sure that there is about 4 inches of open space between the flashing and the light. They then pull it into a cylinder shape and carefully place it over the light area. An important reminder is to make sure that they are always installed where the ceiling joists and the roof rafter intersect. The blown-in insulation is then loaded into the insulation-blowing machine and the process is ready to begin. Users carefully travel across the attic carefully going back and forth until the blown-in insulation covers the attic and is neat, smooth and even. Lastly, users take a minute to put insulation in the access hole and the blown-in insulation in the attic process is complete.
