The tousled look has becomes the hair styling rage both for long and short hair. The style lets you shape your tresses while preserving the natural waves and bounce of your hair. It gives you a casual look rather than a made-up look. Many Hollywood celebrities sport a tousled hair style to depict a naturally disheveled look.

Tousled hair is a trendy style especially for the hot months of summer. It is an easy and natural way to style wet hair after a shower on hot days or following swimming. You can get tousled hair right at home with simple DIY skills. Follow this guide to get a tousled look.

• Wash your hair with a shampoo and a conditioner suited for your kind of hair. Let the conditioner moisten your scalp as you apply it to your hair. Work it in from the roots to the tip as you comb through your hair with your fingers. Do not rub in the conditioner from the tip towards the roots - this makes it harder to style the hair when it dries.

• Rinse the conditioner thoroughly and pat your hair dry with a towel. To preserve the natural waves in your hair, do not rub the towel on your head.

• Gently rub your fingers into the scalp as your lower your head and let your hair drop over - this gives your hair more volume as it dries. Use a hair dryer to speed things up but do not make your hair totally dry.

• Now your hair is ready to wear a tousled look. There are many ways to style it - if you hair has natural curls, make loose waves and curls as you dry it. Use a hair brush to give your hair an extra bounce. Work some hair mousse or gel into your hair to give it a desired shape.

If your hair is straight, divide it into 8-10 sections. Curl and clip each section. Allow the curls to sit for a couple of hours. When you remove the clips, use your fingers to pull down the curls to give your hair a tousled look. Work in a hair gel to set the waves and curls.

You can also get a tousled look by braiding your hair. When you hair is dry, apply some hair gel to it and split it into 8-10 sections. Braid each section all the way to the tip of the hair. Secure the braids with rubber-bands. Curl the braids if you like and secure them with clips to your scalp. Let the braids remain for 6-8 hours. Or simply sleep in your braids. When you unbraid you hair, it will have a natural, wavy bounce. Set it by gently using your fingers as a comb.
