You can paint your own DIY Tuscan kitchen dishes and save a ton of money. Tuscan kitchen paint finishes are warm and inviting. This applies to Tuscan dishes as well.

You can take pre made ceramic dishes in solid colors from the local home decor store and hand paints them to fit your Tuscan kitchen décor in no time! Thee Tuscan plates and bowls also make an awesome house warming gift for someone who loves the look of a Tuscan kitchen.

To Paint Your Own Tuscan Dishes You Will Need:

Ceramic Paints

Sponge

Tape

Solid Colored Plates and bowls

Stencils (optional)

To get started you need to choose your solid colored dishes. I like to use either a terra cotta color dish or some of the following colors: sunny yellow, warm olive green, or clear glass. Once you have the dishes chooses, and your can mix and match them if you wish, then you are ready to start hand painting them in the Tuscan style.

A good idea before you get started is to research some hand painted Tuscan dishes you like from artists on the web. You can get inspiration from their ideas and use them to create you own patterns.

You can also use stencils from the local crafts store to stencil on the designs. A great hand painted Tuscan dish can have leaves, repeating designs, and other nature inspired elements. Olives are also perfect on hand painted Italian style dishes.

Now, on to the painting. It works best to use ceramic paints on the Tuscan table settings. It will last the longest and cost about $3 a bottle. You will need to read the instructions on the product you buy. Many will need to be heat sealed in the oven after application, but some may not require this.

Next tip: a soft brush will apply this type of paint best. It tends to be thin and apply like water color paints; so do not expect thick coverage, like acrylics.

Now, apply your stencils using painters' tape. You can paint in between the open areas. You will not be dabbing like traditional stenciling.

If you are free handing the paint on the Tuscan dishes than simply start painting around the rim of your dish. Continue until you have the who pattern complete.

You can do this same hand painted technique on stemware to match your Tuscan dishes as well. These Tuscan plates and platters also make an awesome housewarming gift for anyone with and Italian style kitchen.

I had no idea you could do this sort of thing without a kiln. I love working on my own art projects that add to the decor of my home. I'm definitely going to try this. Thanks for the info.
