Picking Paper
Do you want a wedding with a vintage look, a playful feel or a sophisticated elegance? Pick your paper accordingly. Walk into any scrapbook or craft store and you will find hundreds of printed paper designs. You won't have any trouble finding something that catches your eye in both your wedding colors and to fit your theme.
It is a good idea to pick three papers that go well with each other and then use them together in all of the ideas listed below. While you want a coordinated look you don't want it to be to be too "matchy" by only using one print. Many companies will have collections of papers that are meant to go together. Using papers from the same collection will assure that the patterns you pick don't clash.
Invitations
When your guests open your wedding invitation it sets the tone for the whole event. The style and wording will clue them into how formal the event is and what to expect. Using your scrapbook paper in your invitation will start to tie the whole theme together. If your paper does not have too busy of a pattern you can print right on the paper in either a dark ink for light papers or a light ink for dark papers. If the patterns are too busy you can print your invitation on to a solid piece of paper and then use the patterned paper to mat the solid piece. There are a lot of creative templates online for cutting out and folding your paper.
Use matching ribbon, brads or other metal findings from the craft store to add a personal touch and to make them stand out.
Programs, Menus, Name Cards and Table Numbers
There are a lot of places where paper is traditionally used during the wedding day. Programs are handy for guests to follow along with the program for the ceremony events. Menus, name cards and table numbers can be printed on your paper and used at the tables. Make sure your table linens coordinate with the colors in the paper you have picked.
Centerpieces
You can attach strips of your scrapbook paper around your centerpieces like you would a ribbon. You can also wrap larger pieces around glass cylinders that hold candles. Measure around the container and cut the paper to fit exactly around and secure with a piece of clear tape cut to cover the length of the seam where the paper meets.
You can also find templates online origami style folded paper lanterns or other folded shapes that you can set around your centerpiece.
Favors
Send your guests home with a favor that uses your scrapbook paper to finish the theme and remind them of the event long after it's over. Wrap candy or specialty soaps in your scrapbook paper and attach your own custom labels with your initials or names and wedding date.
Remember that with any DIY projects you will need to plan time in advance to complete them. Paper items can be made and printed far in advance of your wedding and stored until your big day. Enlist the help of your bridesmaids and make it into a party.
Have fun and be creative using scrapbook paper to coordinate the whole look of your wedding.
