With the economy as tight as it is, you might not have money to get a designer costume for yourself. But all is not lost. There are hundreds of different themes you can work out for Halloween that will still make you the talk of the party.
Here are few different ideas for inexpensive Halloween costumes that can get you through the holiday.
Farmer Charmer.
Nothing says costume like a farmer. It's not hard to pull off and is known as an age old favorite.
All you need is a pair of overalls, boots and plaid shirt. Most people prefer red when it comes to the shirt but it doesn't really matter.
If you really want to spice it up, go to your local novelty store and pick up a pair of bad teeth (you know, the kind that are brown and nasty looking). Also, for the men you can add a straw hat and the ladies can add bandana.
For extra measure, use a little makeup and add some freckles to your face. This really gives off that "just off the farm look."
Bum Off The Street.
This is another classic that can be done relatively easily. Dressing up like a bum or hobo can get you into all the parties without putting a dent in your wallet.
The classic bum look includes torn clothes, old shoes and a little dirt on the face.
As far as the clothes are concern, try and get clothes that are a too big and make rips and tears as you please. It's always a good idea to have on a sports coat on top of your clothes. This gives the appearance of most of the bums you see on TV.
Your shoes should be run down and rugged looking. A good set of shoes to wear are shoes you do yard work or paint in. But make sure they're comfortable; you'll be walking around in them all day.
If you don't have a pair, you can create a pair of bum shoes by getting an old pair and splashing a little paint on them along with rubbing them with mud. That will give them an old and worn look.
For that dirty, stubby look, use black or brown shoe polish. Experiment in the mirror to find a good look for you, but a good idea is to make a light outline of beard on your face.
Guy Gal, Gal Guy
A guy dressing up as a girl and a girl dressing up as a guy are the norm for Halloween. This idea is great if you're going to a party as a couple or within a group.
If you're a guy, try and look for someone in the family or maybe a friend who looks like they may have a dress you can fit. If you want to add, panty hose in, that's ok to, just make sure their comfortable.
Makeup shouldn't be a problem as any girl would love to dress you up (lol). For hair you can use a wig to fit your out fit or leave your hair as is and add a few barrettes to it.
The only complication with this is the shoes. Finding shoes that fit your feet may be difficult, but not impossible. Go to your local shoe store and see if you can find a pair that can get you through the day.
For the ladies, nothing looks better on Halloween that a girl dressing up as a guy. This is a lot easier to pull off that the other.
As far as dress is concerned, there are a number of ways you can go.
You could use the professional approach and dress in a business suit. It would be a good idea to get some styling gel and slick your hair back.
Also use a makeup pencil to add a little facial hair. A mustache is sufficient but you might want to add a shadow beard.
If you want to go the average Joe look, just get a guys sport shirt and add some jeans with guy looking sneakers. The styling gel is still a good idea and you can add some accessories like a guy's watch and maybe a baseball cap to match.
These are just a few ideas for inexpensive Halloween costumes. Use them at will and make your Halloween fun all over again.
