Jewelry making is fun and rewarding. It is also a way to make a living. Jewelry supplies can be purchased or made. Crafting people often find ways to make their own supplies. This is a good way to work with what you have if your supply funds are low. This is also a way to recycle unused items into things that you can use. Jewelry cards are a must have for jewelry sellers. Sellers should have a variety of cards, in different shapes, sizes and colors.

Jewelry cards are needed for necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, and pins. A card is what holds the piece of jewelry you are selling for the shipping process. It secures it. A card also add that professional touch to your piece. Almost all jewelry comes on cards at the stores!

There are certain qualities a jewelry card must have. First of all, it must be stiff. You can't have a flimsy bendable card because it will not hold if things are pulled snuggly, and it will not hold the weight. It has to be a material that can be cut and shaped easily though. It also has to be something that a needle can pass through. The last quality is just must have is attractiveness. Jewelry cards must look nice to display the jewelry nicely.

The one thing that meets all of these requirements is card board. Card board is easy to cut yet stiff enough to securely hold even heavy pieces of jewelry. It can easily be pierced to make holes for earrings or to attach items with needles and thread. Here's how to make your own jewelry cards using card board.

First you find the card board. From toy packaging to pasta boxes the opportunity for finding cardboard in your home is limitless. Nearly everything that is bought now a days is packaged in cardboard. Your recycling bin is probably full of it! Instead of letting it go to the recycling bin recycle it yourself.

Find every colored piece of card board that you can find. Then, find a good pair of scissors. Cut the solid colored areas out. Anything that has words or letters on any side gets thrown out. Anything that is solid colored or print that does not contain words or symbols can be used.

Cut the cardboard into squares, rectangles, circles, and triangles. Cut small, medium and large of each. The more pieces you can cut the more cards you will have. Make sure to use very sharp scissors for a good clean cut edge. If you want you can use a colored half inch wide tape to cover the edges. Simply place the edge in the center of the tape and allow one quarter of an inch to overlap on each side.

To attach earrings to a home made jewelry card all you'll need to do is pierce the holes with a needle. Space the holes about one inch apart. One the holes are in the cardboard slip your earrings into them and attach the backs.

To attach a necklace use a long rectangle shaped card. Slice a half inch slit in the middle of each end. Use the slit on each side to tuck the necklace into. It will then be able to wrap around to the back of the card where it can gently be held in place with thread, a twisty, or tape. Do the same for bracelets.

To make a card hold a charm simply use a needle and thread. Hold the charm where you want it positioned on the card. Pick the card up, grasping both it and the charm without allowing the charm to slide. Take your needle and push it through the cardboard from the back to the front through the charm hole. Pull it out and then push it back down through the cardboard right about the charm hole. Tie the ends of the thread together tightly and trim.

Lastly, to make a card that will hold a ring use a utility knife and a smaller sized piece of cardboard. Slice a half inch slit in the middle of the card. Push your ring down into it and there you go! Thanks so much for reading and take care!
