Materials
1 Broken Mirror
1 Glass Cutter
Protective Gear (goggles, gloves, mask, etc)
1 Package Plaster of Paris
2 Cylindrical Molds, at least 2 inches in diameter, 6 inches to 1 foot high
Mold Release (or liquid soap, cooking spray, petroleum jelly, etc)
Transparent Tape
2 Cheap Taper Candles
Knife
Stirring Stick
Plaster Mixing Container
Measuring Cup
Paints/Brushes
Glaze
Prepare the Mirror Wearing protective gear, use the glass cutter to reduce the mirror into rectangles about ½ inch wide and no shorter than half the height of your mold and no taller than 1 inch less than the height of your mold. You will need 8 rectangles for each mold, more if the cylinders exceed two inches in diameter. Create double-sided loops of tape that are long enough to cover the entire rectangle and stick on the mirrored side of each.
Prepare the Molds Stick the mirrors around the inside of the mold, with the tops no higher than ½ inch below the top edge of the molds, with about ¼ inch between each pair. Coat the exposed portion of the mold's interior with mold release or substitute. Cut one inch from the fat end of each taper and coat well with mold release.
Prepare the Plaster Mix the plaster according to the package directions, mixing enough to fill at least one of the cylinders completely. Pour the plaster into each mold to ½ inch from the top. Insert a cut candle piece into the center of each mold, pressing gently until about ¼ inch remains above the plaster.
Finish the Candle Holders Allow the pieces to dry according to the package instructions. Remove the molds as directed, taking out the candle pieces at the same time. Remove excess any excess plaster from the mirrors. Paint and glaze the cylinders to fit with your decor.
