DIY: Plan and Create the Hottest Comic-Con Themed Party

If you are like most kids, you spent your childhood reading comic books. This is especially true for our family. My brother is a cartoonist for Archie Comics and various other companies. He attends Comic-Con most years. I am quite familiar with the world of comics, and all the interesting and unusual things that take place at a Comic-Con. Have fun planning and creating the hottest Comic-Con themed party. Directions are given on making everything from the hottest invitations to booking special guests for your party.

Comic Book Page Invitations

Photocopy a page from a comic book using cardstock paper. Cut this page out, then fold it in half. Cut a talk balloon from a piece of cardstock. Glue this to the front of the Comic-Con invitation. In this balloon write the invitation message. The inside of the invitation should be blank. On the inside of the invitation write the time of the party, attire information, location and directions.

Guest Attire

Have the guests dress as their favorite cartoon character. Give prizes for the best costumes. The prizes should be cartoon related, like a gift basket full of comic books or a gift certificate from a comic book store. You could also have a special award made that says first prize for the best costume at the hottest Comic-Con party.

Special Guest

Invite the owners of local comic book stores to attend your Comic-Con party. Have each store owner set up a booth displaying what their store sells. Also, let them sell items as a way to thank them for attending your Comic-Con party. Also, discuss with each store about having a giveaway. Guests will love the idea of having a chance to win a great comic related prize.

Comic Book Character Guests

Hire a few people to dress up as their favorite comic book character. Have them welcome the guests as they arrive to the hottest Comic-Con party they will ever attend. They can also help attend to any needs a guest may have, and help you serve the food.

Food

Make special dishes that are related to a character from a certain comic book. For example: Jughead deluxe hamburgers. Jughead is an Archie character know for his love of hamburgers. Serve cakes and cupcakes decorated with talk balloons with special messages. If you know of someone who can draw, have them draw comic book characters on cakes that will be served to your guest.

Decorations

Make large talk balloons from posterboard. Write comic book phrases in them, then hang them on the walls in the room where the Comic-Con party is being held. Frame a few comic books that can be displayed on walls and tables. Finish decorating the room with balloons and streamers. If you can find large cutouts of comic book characters, display them in the entryway or a front porch.

Entertainment

Play comic book charades where everything a guest acts out has to be comic book related. Have a movie night for guest where all the movies that are being watched are based on a comic book or comic book character. Have a concession stand of candies, popcorn and drinks available to your guest.

Gift Bags

Make gift bags full of comics and comic-related items to give each guest as a way of thanking them for attending your Comic-Con party.
