While this method is simple and cost-effective, it does require quite a bit of patience, so be ready to sit and watch wax dry.
DIY Ring Resizing: Tools Needed
The beauty of this method is that you only need a few inexpensive items you probably already have lying around the house.
Newspaper:
You'll want to lay out some newspaper on your work surface so it doesn't get destroyed.
A Candle (Preferably white):
Track down an everyday candle you have lying around the house, a white one will work best, so see if you can scrounge one up.
A Lighter or Matches:
Matches and lighter for to light the candle of course.
Over sized Ring
Get all your over sized rings together and get them all done at once.
DIY Ring Resizing: The Process
First you'll want to lay your ring flat on the newspaper work surface you've created. Next, go ahead and light your white candle and then drip a little bit of the wax from the candle onto the inside of the band. Keep doing this a few drips at a time until you've filled the inside of the band as much as needed. Wax thankfully does dry quickly so you can stop every so often and try the ring on to measure the progress.
If you are working with a ring that has a large stone on top, you can actually pour the wax straight under the stone portion of the ring, avoiding the tricky band area.
After some careful wax dripping, you're all done and ready to wear your ring. How easy is that? And the beauty of using wax is that it can be fairly easily removed if need be.
I must credit my mother with this ingenious tip which she used countless times herself, probably due to our genetically tiny fingers (size 4), which most stores are not equipped to accommodate.
Now that you know a simple money-saving DIY technique for ring resizing, I hope you'll find your jewelry collection expanding.

Interesting - the wax doesn't melt when wearing due to body heat/outside temp?
I didn't know you could use wax to resize a ring. I have a few rings that I inherited from my mum, but she had larger fingers than me, so I haven't been able to wear them myself.

Good idea... though I was hoping to learn how to simply resize them LARGER for those of us whose fingers are less narrow than they once were!
