DIY Rustic Vine Lanterns Materials:

Grape Vine or Thin Vines of Any Type that You prefer

Wire

Glass Jars in Various Sizes (at least three sizes is nice to work with)

Twine

Lights Stings such as White Christmas Lights that are Suitable for Outdoors

DIY Rustic Vine Lanterns Step 1: Begin by using a large glass jar to start the rustic vine lantern craft for outside. The size of the jar that you choose will be the size of the vine lantern that you make. You can make vine lanterns that are all the same size or you can make vine lanterns that vary in size. I prefer to make them in varied sizes small, medium, and large to add some style to the strand of lanterns.

DIY Rustic Vine Lanterns Step 2: Using the vine that you have chosen, begin wrapping the glass jar with the vine. You should not wrap the jar so tightly that you cannot get the jar out of the vine when finished. Remember that the jar is just to use as a guide.

DIY Rustic Vine Lanterns Step 3: Continue wrapping the vine all the way down the glass jar to create an entire cover to the glass jar. Use the wire to tie together the wrapping every 3 turns around the jar. This will maintain the shape and the vines will hold together.

DIY Rustic Vine Lanterns Step 4: To create the bottom of the lanterns, use a separate vine to begin creating a circular pattern to cover the bottom. Begin wrapping the vine in a circular pattern to create a spiral type pattern. Use the wire to tie together the vine as you wrap it. Create a circle that is the size of the bottom of the glass jar that you are using as a pattern.

DIY Rustic Vine Lanterns Step 5: To attach the bottom of the lantern, use the wire to tie the bottom to the lower end of the vine that is wrapped around the glass jar. Tie the bottom to the main piece of the lantern every half inch all the way around.

DIY Rustic Vine Lanterns Step 6: Remove the glass jar from the lantern when you have wrapped and tied the entire jar in vines.

DIY Rustic Vine Lanterns Step 7: Using the light string, begin stringing the lights into the lanterns. You may wish to place more than one light inside the lantern. Make sure that you do not leave any lights out of the lanterns as this will take away from the overall effect of the rustic style lanterns.

DIY Rustic Vine Lanterns Step 8: Using the twine, tie a piece of twin that is about 5 inches long to both sides of the upper portion of each lantern. Then tie an additional piece of twine that is about 12 inches long to the center of the lantern on the twine that you already tied.

DIY Rustic Vine Lanterns Step 9: Tie the rustic vine lanterns into the trees using the attached twine. The lanterns can be strung throughout your back yard oasis to create a rustic outdoor entertainment area.
