Supplies to Make the Leprechaun Favor Hats:
Toilet paper cardboard tubes
Small cardboard oatmeal container
Lightweight cardboard
St. Patrick's Day fabric
Gold ribbon
Compass
Ruler
Scissors
Craft glue
Green tissue paper and candy
Steps to Make the Leprechaun Hat Favors:
1. Cut the toilet paper tube into 2 inch length. Cut the top from the cardboard oatmeal container into a 3 1/2 inch tube.
2. Cut 4 inch circles from the cardboard using the compass. The circles will be the small favor hat brims.
3. Cut an 8 Inch circle from the cardboard using the compass. This circle will be the larger centerpiece hat brim.
4. Cut a piece of fabric 3 inches wide by 6 inches long for each toilet paper tube. Cut a piece of fabric 5 inches wide by 13 inches long for the oatmeal container tube. Glue the fabric around the tubes and overlap the edges. Glue a 1/2 inch of the fabric to the inside top and bottom of each tube.
5. Cut a 5 inch circle of fabric for each of the small hat brims. Cut a 9 inch circle of fabric for the larger hat brim. Apply glue to one side of the hat brim cardboard circles and center on the wrong side of the fabric circles. Snip 1/4" slits around the brim. Glue the slits to the back of the hat brim. Allow the glue to dry.
6. Apply a thin line of craft glue on one end of each tube. Center the tubes on the top side of the hat brim. Allow the glue to dry.
7. Wrap gold ribbon around the hats and tie into a bow for the hat bands. Black, white, yellow or green ribbon could be substituted.
8. For each small favor hat, cut a 9 inch square of green tissue paper. Place gold coins or gold wrapped Hershey's Kisses in the center of the paper. Pull up the sides and insert into the small leprechaun favor hats. For the large centerpiece leprechaun hat, cut an 18 inch square of tissue paper. Place candy in the center the paper. Pull up the sides and insert into the large hat.
These hats are very easy to make and are great for the pocket book. If you do not have St. Patrick's Day fabric, colored paper or green fabric will also look nice.
