Step 1: Cut out shapes of runway models or mannequins from a fashion magazine. Select a variety of images to cut out so that multiple guests will not receive identical pool party invitations. The finished cutouts should display a silhouette of full bodies from head to toe. Remove any unnecessary space between the arms and legs using scissors, if necessary for model shapes that are in posed positions. Magazine cutouts of runway models with hands on their hips would likely have this type of space between the closed arm positions and their torso.
Step 2: Trace the model shapes onto several 5x7 inch pieces of cardboard using a pencil. The number of cardboard pieces needed should coincide with the amount of guests who will be invited to your pool party. Cut your traced model shapes out of the cardboard and then draw a face on the front of each cutout using the pencil. The face can include a pair of eyes, a nose and mouth depending on the amount of detail that you prefer for your pool party invitations. Color the eyes and mouth on each face using color pencils if you want to create feminine swimsuit cardboard cutouts. Cutout photos displaying pairs of sunglasses from a magazine or catalog and then glue them to the front of each cardboard cutout for a more simplistic alternative to drawing faces.
Step 3: Attach several strands of brown, yellow, black, orange or red colored yarn to the back of the cardboard cutouts using glue. The yarn should be positioned above and directly behind the faces on these cutouts, allowing it to be displayed as hair for your cardboard swimsuit party invitations. You can also use curly doll hair, synthetic hair, small polyester pom-poms or chenille stems as a substitute for the yarn. Set the cardboard cutouts aside and then cut swimsuit and swim trunk shapes out of your fabric pieces using scissors. Cut two separate shapes that include a front shape and back shape for one-piece swimsuits.
Glue each piece to their respective side of a cardboard cutout. Cut three separate shapes out of the fabric if you want to make two-piece bikinis. Two of these shapes should be identical to make the bikini bottom while the third if cut into a bikini bra shaped top. Tie bikini tops to your cardboard cutouts rather than using glue, to create a more interactive or two-dimensional style. Print your party information on small 1x1 inch pieces of cardstock paper and then glue them inside each swimsuit, on the back of the cardboard cutouts. The small cardstock pieces should give the appearance of clothing labels, complete with garment care instructions.
