DIY Vintage Bucket Cake Plate

You can use vintage metal buckets to make this cute cake plate stand. Retro metal buckets and reproduction vintage buckets ar perfect for this super easy retro centerpiece.

You can find great reproduction metal buckets at shops like Cost World Market and the local home improvement store. Check out the garden section to find the best selection.

To Make a Retro Cake Stand Using Vintage Buckets you Will Need:

1 Vintage Bucket
1 Metal Dish/ Saucer
Wire Clippers
Epoxy Glue

To get started you need to look for your large plate or top to the cake stand. This is basically a metal "dish" or saucer made from the same silver metal that the bucket. They are sold in the same section at your home improvement store.

You want to choose one that is at least as large as you want a cake plate to be.

Now, take your metal bucket and turn it upside down. If it does not sit flat because of the handle, then you will need to cut it off with tin snips. These will cut through thinner metals like the handle.

If there are two metal tabs on the side of the bucket that keep it from setting flat, then you can fold them up using pliers. Fold them to the outside to get the flattest rim. Thes most like will be impossible to pull off.

Once the base of the vintage bucket cake stand can sit flat and level on the table you want to run a bead of epoxy glue across the top rim of the bucket. This is really the bottom of the bucket, but once turned upside down will be the top rim.

Now, press the flat saucer made from metal onto the top and into the epoxy glue. Press in a hold to make sure it adheres. I like to set a brick or book on this to make sure they stay in flat contact. You can also use a level to make sure these are resting properly.

Now, you will notice you can have your sauce either upright or upside down. This is your choice. If you want no rim, then turn it upside down to have a flat top to your vintage cake stand.

Now, you can also paint on some fun details to add color to your retro cake stand craft. I like to take red paint in acrylic an paint on cherries. You can also take green and add the stems. Get creative here and really customize this to suit your kitchen!
