DIY Vintage Jewelry Made from Recycled Halloween Candy Wrappers

Holly Matheson
With all of the candy that is readily available for children and adults of all ages during the Halloween season, it can be a little difficult figuring out what to do with all of those remaining candy wrappers. Instead of letting them pile in the trash can, why not give a little creativity to those pesky wrappers and turn them into a unique piece of jewelry?
For vintage fans, this unique bracelet gives an interesting twist to your outfit.

Materials You Will Need:
Clean wrappers from your favorite candy
A toothpick
A non-permanent marker
(optional) a few of your favorite beads
Pair of scissors
bead templates
clear tape

Directions:
Find a bead template online and print it out to use as the design for creating your candy wrapper beads. If you cannot gain access to a bead template, you can easily do-it-yourself by tracing a triangle shape on one side of your candy wrappers and cutting along those lines. The angled sides of your triangle should be longer than your base.

To roll your beads, place your toothpick parallel at the base of your triangle and roll the candy wrapper until you have reached the point of your bead. This should give you a bead in the shape of an oval. To secure your bead, use clear tape that has been cut into tiny pieces.

You can make just about as many beads as your jewelry calls for, whether you are making a bracelet, necklace, earrings or other types of jewelry and accessories.

To get creative with your jewelry, you can incorporate some of your favorite beads before stringing. Choose beads that fit with the color schemes of your candy wrapper beads or change it up entirely by using beads that will add a splash of a completely contrasting color. Glass beads that are hand blown are a good choice as it is very unlikely that your bead will be duplicated.

Stringing your beads to add the finishing touch to your jewelry can be very fun and creative if you do a little research on techniques and methods of bead stringing. You can use a basic single string to make your jewelry or perhaps if you're familiar with the technique, you can string your beads with hemp using any of the different hemp knot techniques that are readily available online. The great thing about stringing your beads is that you can generally find stringing materials in a wealthy supply of textures, materials and colors.

Banish your problem with over-flowing candy wrappers and get a little creative too with jewelry that is re-created and designed from your favorite candy wrappers. There are endless possibilities as to how you can be unique with your design to create truly unique jewelry accents for yourself or your children.
