It's possible that your child(ren) would like to dress up at Wall-E this Halloween. Here's a guide and tips on creating a homemade Wall-E costume.
What you will need:
Large to X-large Foam or Cardboard Boxes (enough for Wall-E's body, 2 large eyes, and 2 wheels/tracks)
Yellow spray paint
Gray spray paint
Black Sharpie
Markers
Duct Tape
Glue
Old pair of oversized plastic glasses or swim goggles (or sunglasses with the lens removed)
Large cardboard or foam cutout of Wall-E's eyes (with a hole in each for child's vision)
Gray Gloves
Yellow long sleeve shirt
This is the costume building process:
The image here should give you an idea of what the whole costume should look like.
Gather your materials together so you won't be running around.
Measure your child and find a square or rectangle cardboard box big enough to fit over your child's head and shoulders. The bottom will be open. The top will be intact except for a circle or square you cut out for your child's head to go through. Cut out circles on each side so your child's arms may fit through too. You can also make Wall-E's body out of camping bed foam and tape it together.
Cut out cardboard or foam tires shapes.
Spray paint Wall-E's body yellow leaving a 4" or so horizontal area across the top. That space you will spray paint gray. Look at the photo above for reference if you need to.
Spray paint Wall-E's tires a gray color.
After the paint has dried, use the markers and Sharpie and draw Wall-E's buttons and gadgets on his body.
While you have the markers out, design and color Wall-E's large eyes.
Attach the tires to the bottom left and right side of the body with glue.
Assemble Wall-E's eyes. To do this, the large foam or cardboard eye cutouts will be glued onto the glasses frame. Test the position of the eyes with your child before glueing them on. Don't block your child's vision!
After your child has put on the Wall-E costume for Halloween, you can put his gray gloves on each hand. You can leave it at that, or you can tape 2 pair of the gloved fingers together on each hand to look like Wall-E's shovel hands. That's up to you and your child's comfort though.
Don't forget about Wall-E's companion, the roach. You can find a fake one at a toy store and glue it to the top of the costume's body. That would really complete the outfit.
