DIY Wedding Photography: Shot List for the Creative Couple

Do it Yourself Wedding Photos Made Easy with a Shot List

Kristy Martz
Do it yourself wedding photography can be a creative way to commemorate your special day. Make out a DIY wedding photo shot list for your friends and family so you don't miss out on a single special moment.

As a creative couple, you will want something a little different than the traditional poses. Here are some suggestions to make your wedding photographs truly unique.

Creative Wedding Photography - Bride and Groom

Have the bridesmaids hold their bouquets in a ring around the bride's face. Take a close-up photograph of her surrounded by the wedding flowers.

To add a little humor to your wedding photos, have the groom stand at the altar and look at his watch as though the bride is running late for her own wedding.

Take a picture of the bride and groom doing something they enjoy. Do they like to golf? Snap a wedding photo of them outside, swinging golf clubs.

DIY Wedding Photos of the Wedding Party

Ask the bride, groom, and attendants to lay on the floor with their heads touching. They will form a circle. Take a picture of their faces. An indoor wedding with a small wedding party would work well with this shot. Just make sure nobody steps on the bride's gown!

If the church has steps outside, have each person stand on a separate step. Stand on the middle step and shoot them all in profile. Have them all turn to face you and take another picture.

Taking Creative DIY Wedding Pictures of The Ceremony

Although you are a creative couple, you will probably still want some traditional wedding photos.

In addition to these traditional wedding photographs, consider some of these unique wedding photo opportunities:

Don't just take pictures of each attendant as they walk down the aisle. Assign someone to take their photo from the back as well. Get down on your knees and shoot straight down the aisle as each couple is halfway down.

If you can climb onto a chair or ladder without disrupting the ceremony, you can take an interesting photograph looking down on the wedding ceremony.

DIY Wedding Photos at the Reception

The reception is an excellent opportunity to take journalistic style DIY wedding photographs. There is no limit to the angles and composition you can try.

Try to get up high for a wide shot of the garter and bouquet tosses.

You might be able to convince the couple's single friends to pretend to jostle one another before the toss for a humorous picture.

The Key to Creative DIY Wedding Photography

Wedding photography should be an expression of the personality of the bride and groom. Make your DIY wedding photos as unique as you are. Have fun and experiment. Get on your knees, stomach, or back to snap that wedding photo.
