DIY Wedding: How to Make Rose Wedding Centerpieces

If you are looking for a classic centerpiece to display at your wedding reception tables, look no further than the rose. Whether you opt for the very classic red rose, or a variety of other colors and sizes, a wedding centerpiece comprised of roses is sure to please the eyes and the nose with its fragrant beauty.

Make Rose Wedding Centerpieces: The Roses

Of course, the most important element of your rose wedding centerpieces is the roses themselves. Even if you were to just buy a ton of long-stemmed roses and lay a few flat on each table, guests would recognize those as an elegant component of your wedding décor.

When considering what roses to include, base your decision on a few different elements of your existing wedding décor and color scheme. First, decide whether you want to have just one kind of rose in your centerpieces, or if you want two or more varieties. Next, think about the color of the roses, whether you want them to be white and unobtrusive, or bold and complementary with the rest of your wedding colors. Lastly, pick the size of your roses, which can range anywhere from mini spray roses to full huge blooms.

Make Rose Wedding Centerpieces: The Vases

The vases you select to hold your rose centerpieces will play a large role in determining what other elements you need to consider to make your centerpieces complete. If you want to go really simple, you could get small vases that are just a few inches tall and would each hold one bloom, and put a few of those on each table. Or you could go the other direction and have large arrangements of long-stemmed roses on each table. Other creative ideas include floating roses in shallow bowls of water, and creating arrangements that do not even require a vase at all.

Make Rose Wedding Centerpieces: Greenery and Ribbons

To complete your arrangements of roses, you will probably want to include some elements of flair such as greenery and ribbons in the centerpieces you make. For greenery, anything from delicate eco-palms to sprigs cut from your favorite tree in the yard can be used. Make sure that it complements the feel of your décor, rather than clashing with it.

Ribbons are a great way to make any centerpiece seem more fancy, and they are very flexible in how you use them. Select ribbon that complements your color scheme and is fancy enough (satiny or sheer materials work great) to dress the arrangements up instead of down. One classic use of ribbons is to tie a wide swath of ribbon around the neck of the vase, leaving the ends dangling gracefully. Other uses can be to actually have ribbons spilling out of the necks of the vase and cascading toward the table, or to tie small pieces of ribbon around the stems of some of the flowers.

Make Rose Wedding Centerpieces: Assembly

Your centerpieces should be assembled the day before your wedding, taking care to put all the elements in water after making a fresh cut on their stems. Assembling your centerpieces is best done by setting all the vases (or other types of containers) on a large table, and then going around and putting the same quantity of each element in each vase. This ensures that they are all balanced in what they contain, and it helps save you from forgetting to put an important element in your wedding centerpieces.

Following these simple instructions and making use of your creativity will leave you with beautiful centerpieces that your guests will be sure to notice and enjoy at your wedding.
