DIY Winter Skin Moisturizing Tips

Monica Bullock
Old Man Winter loves tormenting my skin but this year I've decided to be ready for him when he begins lurking. Even though I live in the south and don't see a lot of snow, it can get cold. The constant running of the heater, bundled clothing and winter winds leave me feeling dried out. This year's plan for fighting winter skin includes some at home remedies, a daily skin regimen and skin friendly fabrics. DIY winter skin moisturizing tips may help you stay hydrated all winter long.

Home Remedies

Go natural this year and whip up this home remedy for your skin. Winter skin relief may be found right in your kitchen. Here's how to make a tangerine moisturizer perfect for your whole body.

• Peel a tangerine and remove the pith. You will only need ¼ of the tangerine for your tangerine moisturizer.

• Place the tangerine in a blender.

• Add 1 tablespoon of sour cream, ½ teaspoon of flour and 1 teaspoon of rose oil.

• Blend the ingredients well for 30 seconds.

• Apply the tangerine moisturizer to your face in the morning and evening right before cleansing your skin.

Daily Regimen

Vigilance is your key ally in the battle to protect winter skin. Use this daily regimen to get and keep moist skin all season long.

Morning

• Shower using warm, not hot, water. Rinse and pat your skin dry.

• Pour a small amount of baby oil in your hand and apply the oil to your body. Pay close attention to your knees and elbows.

• Moisturize your face after cleansing.

• Treat feet with hydrating body lotion before putting on shoes.

• Finish your morning regimen by dabbing a little lotion into your hands and smoothing the hand skin.

Noon

• Moisturize your hands before and after lunch. This will counteract any drying that occurs from washing up and working with your hands.

• Apply lip balm to your lips after lunch.

Evening

• Wash away makeup and moisturize your skin with hydrating cream.

• Shower with warm, not hot, water. Rinse and pat your skin with a dry towel.

• Apply body lotion to your entire body.

• Slather your feet with petroleum jelly and cover the feet with clean cotton socks.

Skin Friendly Fabrics

Non-irritating fabrics are best for soothing irritated winter skin. Try wearing cotton or silk fabrics. Avoid wearing wool or flannel, which can be rough on sensitive skin. Wash your clothing with unscented detergents to decrease your chances of skin problems.
